    I'm trying to get an idea of student radio in this country, there's full licenced, temps, online, practice etc. So far I have;

    Full licenced
    Galway: Flirt FM http://flirtfm.ie
    Limerick: Wired FM http://www.lit.ie/wiredfm/
    Cork: Cork Campus Radio http://www.ucc.ie/ccr/

    Temporary
    Dublin: Belfield FM
    Dublin: Trinity FM http://trinityfm.com

    Others I've noticed
DIT FM (Dublin Institute of Technology), Griff FM (Griffith College), DCU FM (Dublin City University), ITT FM (Institute of Tallaght), DLCCR (DunLaoghaire Institute of Art & Design/IADT)

That's as far as I've gotten, and I know that some of the information may be obsolete, some stations off air (I've had a look at the BCI website, Radiowaves and CRAOL).

Anybody have any more names/ websites/ info? FM or internet?

Waterfords WIT had a student radio station until a few years ago, not exactly sure why it was stoped really, happened before my time there.
It would be great to have a student radio setup in this part of the country again.

Hey there, I'm involved with DCUFM.
We're hoping to get the full licence by the end of the summer, at the moment we're online at dcufm.com
Although we're in a "transitionary" state at the minute, come september there are major changes in format planned

Kairos/Maynooth students run a station every January for a week (5-9pm each day) as part of the postgrad diploma there it's KCI 102.5 normally!

Belfield FM is going fulltime. Licence wise its unclear if its going to be community or institutional. UCD is building a new student center and as part of that a multi-studio broadcast center for TV and Radio. Watch this space. Plus ill fix the website when I get a minute :p

Belfield FM is off now but it did a test run of a full time broadcast Sept-April. Monday - Friday 8am - 11pm on the internet and 6 weeks on the FM under a temp licence at 50W with a transmitter on the UCD watertower.

Do they have a decent studio? How come they don't broadcast all year?

If anyone has contact details for anyone in Student Radio Stations, I'd be most appreciative. Trying to drum up a bit of a student radio network, maybe...

they do have a full proper studio.. I don't know why they don't broadcast all year probably to much work involved for them to get it running when they do broadcast it's only the postgrad class mainly that run the station and they only broadcast 5-9 each evening for five days. Simon Devilly is behind the live radio class on the course. It would be a good idea but then the way the postgrad course works there as well is you only do the radio end for the first semester and then move on to television production. Also I think there's been problems with declining numbers on the postgrad course cos I know when I did it there was only 13 people so we had to recruit some of the masters class to help with radio week.

There are alot of costs involved in student radio plus the time constraints on the staff. A full time radio station would require a full time manager at least on up to 30k a year. Thats the going rate for community station managers as far as I know. Alot of collages dont want to fund that due to the fact that student radio genereally generates very little revenue.

Belfield FM is going to do another full time year this year with a community licence with a volunteer staff and management on a minimal wage. Its going to be challeneging considering UCD does not offer a media course , its management team are full time students and cutbacks mean the station is underfunded. Hope it works well but wont continue in that capcaticy indeffinately.

If I was on 30k I'd be a happier woman! Thanks for everyone's input so far - hadn't checked back on this thread in a while.

Flirt FM is hosting an Irish Student Radio networking event this October (funded by CRAOL, the Community Radio Forum of Ireland)http://craol.ie/.

    Details at http://craolcampusconnections.blogspot.com/.

While it's mostly for the benefit of full-time licenced student radio stations, we'd be delighted if other campus stations would give us a shout, and maybe send a few people down. Contact craolcampusconnctions[at]gmail.com if anyone's interested!:P

Hey, good to hear from more stations. NUI Galway Radio Society are having an event this weekend (loads of notice for you!) and I've just added Notch FM to the list of student stations. If anyone involved is free this Saturday, I'm sure they'd be delighted to have them call down.
