I'm guessing this was moved from another forum.

Fine Gael - Best of a bad bunch. RIP PD's.

FG, though I'll probably also vote for FF, Labour and the Greens in an effort to unseat Kathy Sinnott in the Euro elections.

I'd be the same but i'm not in her constituency, I'll probably vote anything but libertas.

I'd say so at a guess, can't see him topping the poll again though.

This is a vague poll. Is it local, national or european? because I'd vote differently in each.
Also as far as I know Libertas is only a European party?

FG in the local and euros, after that anyone to keep out libertas.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,815 ✭✭✭✭galwayrush

Fine Gael definately. deserve there chance in power

Yeah I would have probably voted PD's if they were around. FG because I dont believe in FF, and I dont like the Labour ideology.

In fairness, Brain Crowley FF comes across as a very intelligent man, I saw him at the Forum on Europe Lisbon Treaty debate and I have met him in person once. He is the only FF man I would ever vote for.

Can we make the poll results public?

    Me FG.

No time for FF, Labour are too populist. Going to give the greens a miss this time.

No, if people want to declare their choice that's their matter. As is, this is an unrestricted poll so I wouldn't place any weight on the result.

We're discussing a more secure option for closer to June that'll restrict votes to people who've posted in Politics recently, or people who've been a member for a set length of time in order to prevent people messing with the results through reregging.

Added a generic hard left option for those so inclined.

The only thing ill say nesf, if your going to leave voting for the future poll to politics users only you are going to get a different result to a poll for sitewide users of more than a few month. People on the politcs board I would imagine are disproportionately anti-FF for example.

Do you really think that Fine Gael aren't the same bunch of w*nkers and don't you think the only difference is that they just haven't been in power?
Had they been in power instead of FF we'd be looking at the reversed situation. There is just no difference between FF & FG.

Well and with Labour you can count yourself blessed with the tax rates we have now and you may also forget about welfare justice. There will be even more power to the dossers.

IMHO the political landscape in Ireland shows no alternatives and quite simply we're f*cked.

I never understood why this claim is being bandied about.
Labour policies have been fairly similar since Gilmore took over but it's only when Labour's support went up that accusations of populism came through.

Dont get me wrong. I have time for Labour, but this country needs a radical overhaul in the course its going to take. We will not get that with labour. They will try and please everyone. Hard choices need to be taken. The unions in health, and transport need to be given a good kick up the hole. Labour will never go against their core vote.

I am not sure any party is up to this but Fine Gael are the only option to try.

Indeed. There hasn't been any decision on how to limit it yet.

Funnily enough, it seems public opinion is against the unions and yet Labour still defend them.
I've been in the Labour party for a fair few years and seen no massive changes, it just seems the electorate is taking more notice. For this, Labour is accused of populism.

But has Labour every gone against the Unions? I think people are starting to join the dots, so that is why they accuse labour of being populist!

Would you go home out of that! :P Fine Gael are nothing like them bunch of eejits in government at all. There a lot more honest and decent. I think FG want to actually step in and try clean up the mess, straighten out Ireland and hopefully grab hold of the nettle that is the public sectore and sort it out. There not just going to pretend they want to, step in and be delighted there now in power. They have now seen how a government can get very rocky by the public and opposition, if they get in it will be seen as a chance to prove themselves. If they did anything but, the credability of the party would be wiped out.

    I wouldnt go that far.

Id say its more because they seem to be jumping on the unions bandwagon, which is why some people feel they are just mainipluating publics concerns rather then being honest and willing to address all the ****e that we are in. They have become very vocal, well ahead of FG, and a lot of people were initally agreeing with them. While not as strong as FG, they were looking to be a joint party effort. Now, im not so sure. Labour dont seem to want to associate/disaccociate with any party which is an added worry I guess.
