Honestly I don't know much about politics and don't pretend to know anything about it.

I go by morals and for that reason FF will not be getting my vote this time around.

I do vote and have voted in every election since I've turned 18.

Today I'll be voting for the independents and might throw a vote in the way of labour.

The only reason is because these are the only parties who have actually called to my door and talked to me in simple layman's terms because like I've said before, I know fcuk all about politics.

Roll on the independents and labour.

Similar result to the opinion poll on politics.ie except there seem to be more votes for Labour on this poll.

Is this the result that people are expecting?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,762 ✭✭✭turgon

FF will get way more that 7% in the actual poll!

No, the FF vote is too small.

I believe this will correspondwith the "yoof" vote, not the traditional voter who make up the majority of the electorate.

I Stand readyto be corrected though!

Again, because we're voting for candidates here. If we were voting for Parties FF wouldn't be in government atm.

Anyone but Eoin Ryan (but somewhat perversely I will vote FF in local, along with FG)

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,575 ✭✭✭patmac

Was talking to a FF local activist last night and they were very confident that things won't be half as bad as people expect. They are expecting heavy loses in the cities but very liitle change in the country all politics being local and all that. I think they are in for a shock.

    Fianna Fail FTW :D

I've been canvassing for fg in westmeath. in our local 4 seater consitituency ff are likely to lose a seat to fg. ff are being hammered on the doors hopefully it will follow through to votes!.

    Labour FTW!!!!
Also would like to see Sinn Féin do well.
Fianna Gael will probably come out strongest - not that I'm in favour of that.
Fianna Fáil will hopefully drop considerably from the last local elections.
The Greens are too wishy washy for me to actually care what happens to them and again don't care much about the Independents, Libertas, Socialists or other minority parties.
LABOUR and Sinn Féin all the way.

I put numbers beside all candidates, I intentionally put all ff candidates last, it felt like the right thing to do, I'm not altogether sure why? I guess we need change but I was sayig at lunchtime that I didn't want to leave them off the hook either.

Other than that I voted top two people I know well and like, and anything else I threw labours way. Didn't know I was a labour man party wise until this election. AnywY looks like ff are in serious trouble. I'm looking forward to seeing if the party is completely devastated.

I also see sinn féin and libertas as destructive forces in Europe so I voted them lower than ff, I like the sounds of nessa childers, a good labour woman, oops showing my labour colours again, I also think I'm tinged with a bit of green, like the idea of renewable sources of energy etc. Wind, sun, waves etc etc and was always big into my recycling, that's my tuppence thrown in

    From an rte report:

"Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has rejected claims that he asked Trevor Sargent to find out if Sinn Féin would be prepared to support him as Taoiseach after the 2007 General Election"

I dont see how sinn fein could support him as "LEADER" at all-in any situation.

If there is a general election-we would really need to consider our options.

Parties should be VERY clear who they are willing to choose as
    "THEIR LEADER"

I find it very interesting to see the under representation for Fianna Fail in this poll. 5% when even the most hard hitting opinion polls usually show at least 20% voting for the party.
Why don't Fianna Fail voters use boards.ie??
Is the 20% national poll made up mainly of elderly people or other demographics who wouldn't use the internet often?
Do Fianna Fail voters feel that there is nothing wrong with our country therefore they don't express any concern on this website???

Personally I'd like to see more pro-FFgovernment posters on these forums. I'm pretty tired of reading things I completely agree on :pac: We need some balance, I invite FF to lay out their side so we can have some proper debate.

I believe it has to do with the proportionality of the voting system (seems biased towards the less populated areas in terms of 'elected official/voter')
Correct me if I'm wrong on this?

Also I doubt they appeal as much to younger generations who can't remember the civil war

    From other thread:

Contrasting the Local First Pref Votes with Boards.ie Politics Poll.
Boards.ie percentiles adjusted to eliminate non-voters.

    Party|Locals %|Boards Poll %|Difference %
    Fine Gael | 32.2 | 33.1 | +0.9
    Fianna Fail | 25.4 | 6.4 | -19.0
    Labour | 14.7 | 29.0 | +14.3
    Greens | 2.3 | 5.4 | +3.1
    Sinn Fein | 7.4 | 13.4 | +6.0
    Independents* | 18 | 12.7 | -5.3

*Also includes Libertas and Hard Left

An unsurprising lack of support for Fianna Fail and lots of support for the Left.

So if you has to give a political party a vote in the morning who would you vote for?

If you "has" to give a vote then "Wouldn't Vote" shouldn't be an option.

    Voted Labour by the way.

Hope Labour actually puts the proper structures in place for the next general election so they can reap the rewards of their current popularity.

Interesting how the majority of votes here are for an even more conservative party...

I don't personally feel there is a party out there that represents my views, snippets from each more like. I did quite like the PD's though and would be very in favour of an effective Green party.

I'm presuming that most of the people who indicated a preference for The Blueshirts (Fine Gael) are probably over the age of 30.It would be depressing to think that anyone under that age could be so conservative and unimaginative.FG , in contrast to catch-all FF, actually have policies - it's just that I detest them.they represent the secret and largest party in all of Ireland - Me Fein.Depressing!

Fine Gael have a social democratic side, it was us who started the liberal agenda in the 80's, when FF had to be dragged kicking and screaming from the dark ages, have a look at Fg web page, plenty of policies.

Fianna Fail have created a disaster, that will endure for the next 20-30 years, in all honesty do you think FG would have let that happen, had they been in govt.

I supported fg from 1981, and joined the party in 2000, the ideas come from the grass roots, of which i have forwarded two forward thinking plans, these are currently going through the parties policy board.

Are you people off your trolley's?, Fine Gael are leading, like going from the fire to the fire and back again, ohh I don't know?.
This country need's a leader, but unfortanately there's not one to be found anywhere.
Dail "musical chairs" Eireann, when the music stops everyone jump into a seat, then shout the same BS from one side to another, nothing changes.

Oh we will see this voting result change when the recession ends and we are back on track. People will then favour whatever government is in power at that time, congratulate them for doing it, while at the same time the government is scratching their heads and saying "WTF? How did this happen?"

You should leave the option "other" as there might be a new political party on its way, even if created by some forum users.

IMHO, Irish politics lacks of modern political party with strong all-European appeal.

Whats worrying is that people still vote FF.

    I voted FG.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,233 ✭✭✭sdanseo

I reckon I'd need a full manifesto in front of me to make a proper decision beut I'd say I'd give #1/#2/#3 to Labour, FG and Greens - only greens if they do the right bloody thing and pull out.
