Hi there have recently bought a mazda rx8 and have been shopping around for insurance quotes getting from 1400 - 2800 with 3 years ncb full licence and 24 yes old.
123.ie seem to be the best crowd so far....

Anyone in a similar situation or had previous similar dealings, or even know of any other decent insurance companies or brokers around?

Oh he one more question, currently insured with Quinn and they refuse to give me a quote, does that mean I lose out on the next 3 months remaining on my current policy or am I entitled to swap it over to the mazda when if there refusing to quote me for a new policy after my existing one finishes?

    Cheers lads!!!

i thought your company had to give you a quote if you were already with them.
were you talking to some one on the phone or just the internet?
Try britton insurance if you havent already, they are a broker alot of people with modified cars go through

You've just learned one of the expensive lessons when buying a car. Always get a quote before you buy... I nearly got stung with that years ago when I bought a car. Rang up to transfer insurance over and they said they wouldn't do it, luckly I'd rang a few weeks before to get a price and they had to honour it.

And €1400-€2800 sounds good for a 24 year old in a sports car. I was paying similar for a 1.4 when I was younger, sh!t I sound like my Da.

Is 123.ie selling you the xsdirect policy with the €4k excess?

Your current Insurers are obliged by Insurance Federation regulations to substitute the vehicle on your current policy. They are not, however obliged to increase the level of cover than already there (e.g. going from Third Party only to Comp) In addition, they are also obliged to offer you renewal terms on it when the time comes and the quote cannot be so excessive as to be a declinature. This can be hard to establish though.

Bottom line is that that particular insurer will wear you down by putting you on hold for hours and then switching you around the place until you give up. A good broker will know where to go with your circumstances. Let them do the calling around for you.

No offence OP but would it not have been a bit more prodent to get insurance quotes before you bought the car?

Go to insure.ie and see can you get insurance with Asgard. They gave me a quote of €1200 or so, when I was getting quotes of €1600 elsewhere. Advise you to ring them, though, as when I found that I could get a chaper rate by ringing them.

Try St Paul's Travellers, I think they specialise in performance cars:

First Ireland always quote me lower on performance cars. A 27yr old friend is insured on a boxster s for 700quid. My 200sx is 800.

Its not that bad, they specialise in them rather than "specialise" in them like XS do. St Pauls more specialise in high risk in general rather than just performance anyway.
