That's my brother's name and he spells it Evin, I think it's only been in the past 10 years that people have been spelling it with an a. I've even checked the book where the name was got from(1920's book of Irish names) it's Evin

And yes it always annoys me when people spell it wrong. The letters in Evin fit better than Evan which to me just looks awkward and wrong.

Is it not correctly spelt Eimhín, as in the full name of Monasterevin, Mainistir Eimhín?

Aoibhinn, as in Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin, is the coolest name I've heard this week! Why do all the birds who are soft on the eye have the sexy names?;)

Evan is actually Welsh for John.

Its just a different name, not a misspelling.

Yes, John is English for the Welsh Evan and the Irish Eoin. When the Normans came the Norman Jehan became Seán in Irish and the English changed it to John later (similarly the Norman French Piers became Piaras in Ireland and was changed to Peter by the English).

    phasers conmanthekiller

    thanks a million,

about time someone mentioned my name

CONOR the oldest most origional irish name a priest can christen,

...speaking of priests a relative of mine, who was born in the 1930s, has been known to everybody as Maeve all her life, as it was the name her parents called her. However, the local priest refused to *Christian* her after the local pagan Queen Méabh so she was registered as 'Margaret' in the official record. You couldn't invent this sort of stuff.

I recently named my daughter Addison and someone flittering into the pregnancy forum made a smart arse comment about me being a fan of Grey's Anatomy because I had also chosen the name Grace as a possibility. Is it possible that someone liked the names before they became popular because of the TV program?

Love the name Addison, great choice.

I also like Aodh,Noah, and Ferdia for a boy

Love the name Addison, great choice.

I also like Aodh,Noah, and Ferdia for a boy

Aodh was on my list of boys names when I was preggers too, along with it's English Hugh and Hugo. All of these names were immediately vetoed by himself.

To be honest I think Aodh is a great name in theory, but when I suggested it to my sister she said in her best Scouser accent: "Eh, Eh, Eh, Eh".

    Aodhán is good too........

My fave boys' name is Zain that's my ds's name.

For girls love Rachel, Summer, Ava, Aisha, Alanah
