Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Before ~15 months old babies do not recognise themselves in the mirror.

You'd be amazed the number of new parents I've told this to who've been insulted by this fact.

Humans are unique in their ability to sweat to lose heat. That's also why we're relatively hairless. While animals sweat to give off odours, they need to use other less efficient methods to avoid overheating such as panting and flaps of skin or large ears ect.

In africa there's certain animals that cannot pant while running. If you keep chasing them at a reasonable pace (obviously not sprinting) for 15 minutes they just collapse on the spot giving you an easy meal!

Fred and Wilma Flintstone were the first couple to be on tv in bed together. That actually came up in a pub quiz one night.
On a different note, Madelaine McCanns parents did it, gangsta rap made them do it.

If you shoot an elephant, a hippo and a rhino with the same amount of tranquilliser (can't remember the amounts, which may be important) the elephant will stand stock still, the hippo will slow down, but the rhino will just get pissed off.
The rhino is also one of those animals that will die if chased for 15 minutes.

Given the first fact, what would be scary enough to persuade a rhino to run for 15 minutes?

For 110 years there existed a state of war between Russia and Berwick-upon-Tweed (population 11,666)

In 1966 a Soviet official waited upon the Mayor of Berwick, Councillor Robert Knox, and a peace treaty was formally signed. Mr Knox is reputed to have said "Please tell the Russian people that they can sleep peacefully in their beds."

To complicate the issue, some have noted that Knox did not have any authority with regard to foreign relations, and thus may have exceeded his powers as mayor in concluding a peace treaty. So in reality the Crimean War continues and is now in it's 156th year.

The longest place name in Ireland is Muckanaghederdauhaulia, in County Galway.

Ireland’s 15 principal railway stations are named after the leaders of the 1916 uprising.

Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people! Adios Lefties ;)

Native cultures are so in tune with nature that most of the very large land animals not related to ones that co-evolved with us in Africa were wiped out locally shortly after they arrived.
