Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Whats the bet Owen will leave when Newcastle get relegated and will bang in 25 goals for another team next season?

How do ypu get those odds?

Well if the probability of a decision is "50/50" or "60/40 or less" i.e. tight. Then over a large sample of decisions they will even out eventually. Thats also a fact.

Whether there are enough decisions in a season to offset the variance is debatable.

    mathematically, you're absolutely right. i can't argue.

but i don't think it's taking into account basic human error.

anyway, we should probably leave it as this is the match thread. it's just an interesting point that i've always been somewhat skeptical about.

Human error would be taken into account at decision time. He makes an error and gets it wrong 50% of the time, he doesnt make an error and gets it right 50% of the time.

Human error would be a factor just like, view of the incident, prior decisions (which I dont think should come into it but naturally it will), lighting, fatigue, a myriad of other variables.

They all add together to give you the probability of the decision being tight or stonewall. Tight decisions will even out over a large sample.

But yes, lets leave it. All you liverpool fans will realise it someday and stop blaming poor howard webb for the loss of the title in "your" year.

I blame all those drawn games for not winning and i think the vast majority of Liverpool fans will agree with me.

Yet another post from you where you live up to your forum nick.

as i said in my first post, that's not why i brought it up. liverpool not winning as many games as utd is why we're second, not howard webb. obviously.

good to see you couldn't resist a dig though. shows your true colours really that you'd make that point anyway.

    Guardian live report
71 min: Pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass passity passity pass. No end product by Liverpool, though. They're the new Arsenal!

68 min: It's like the Anfield Road end is tipping up towards the Kop: the ball keeps rolling back towards Harper's goal. Now Gerrard slips Kuyt in down the right channel, but the striker drags his shot wide left.

Alonso off bar again. Gerrard wastes.
