New everyday car, Impreza?

I've decided I need to get a new car for everyday use, and I'm looking at a few. The only two prerequisites are fairly economical and reliable.

Also, nothing over 2ltr as I have my other cars to have fun with.

Don't need an exceptionally big car. Open to diesel or petrol.

My budget would be a maximum of 22k. Can't import as I have a trade in worth about 4-4.5k.

So heres what I have been looking at so far:

    07 Impreza 1.6
    New Impreza diesel
    New Lancer 1.5
    08 Alfa 147
    Citroen C4

Any opinions on the above or any other ideas?

Id avoid a non turbo impreza, i dont think its a good car at all.. A newish Alfa would depreciate very quickly so maybe not the best either.. I drove a C4 from Eindhoven to a festival in Belgium and back a few years ago, would have been an 06 one i think, i found it really nice to drive.

What car do you have now and what do and dont you like about it?

The new Impreza diesel is a no-brainer. Permanent 4WD, 150bhp, 21,500k. Best value new car out there really. Reliable, excellent diesel engine, good car.

If you want to drive the Impreza, i'd recommend Castle Subaru in Bray. I bought a car from them last year, and i've found them to be very good to deal with.
