You can see my dad. Only joking. The Vatican flags suggest a papal nuncio or pope visiting.

Two way traffic on Shop Street!

There's a site called Old Galway Pics that shows what some parts of Galway were like in the 60's. They have one of Eyre Square anyway didn't bother looking at the rest

    fantastic video!

going to venture a theory as to date. The large number of Vatican flags would suggest that the city could be decorated in bunting for a eucharisitc procession - much more pomp and ceremony than now a days.

But because there are American flags in there too, it would seem likely that is was for the opening of the Cathedral in 1965. I think there were two American Cardinals present, Cushing and Spellman and one of them was Papal Legate for the event. They were the ones who consecrated the place and there were huge festivities and fireworks etc Would make sense that cameras be present like this one....

It doesn't look all that different. The roads look better than they do today.

    The papal visit was 1979.

No way the street video above is that late.

it's the opening of the Cathedral, not the Papal Visit.

Came across this video of Galway City in the 1960s. I reckon it was just prior to JFKs visit.

Some of major visual differences to me seem to be well surfaced roads, lack of vomiting students and it seems far more vibrant.

it's the opening of the Cathedral, not the Papal Visit.

Appears correct as the Cathedral opened in '65.

The cars on the left at the beginning remind me of the taxi rank opposite the Living Room.
