    Hi all.

I will be taking up a position as the web editor of a student newspaper next September. Unfortunately, my experience of web design is fairly limited. I understand most of the concepts but I lack coding skillz. The site will be run on ExpressionEngine.

Could any wise sage give me some advice on where to begin getting the fundamentals of CSS/HTML and web design in general? There seems to be a lot of tutorials about, but I'd hope that someone would be able to recommend something better tailored to my needs.

    Thanks in advance.

If the site is built with ExpressionEngine then it won't be that technical. You'll just need to learn how the system works, but won't need to know much about HTML/Design or coding unless you want to change the design. If it's all setup already that shouldn't be an issue. :)

If you do want to know a bit about HTML, it's certainly no harm, then there's a great book Head First XHMTL & CSS and this website will give you some of the basics too.

W3schools was my rock when I was learning html and css. What a fantastic website.

Two great websites, that you may not need are:
Smashing Magazine - a great website for the visual aspect of design, loads of clever css stuff with lots of great stock imagery

    A List Apart
    - lots of very clever stuff for people working with websites. Code and advice.
