Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

roof slates changing colour

I built my house 17 years ago and put man-made slates on the roof. I notice lately that a lot of them are turning white, with a slightly rough surface. Does anyone know if this is a problem I need to address? And how should I go about it? Thanks in advance.

You should be delighted that you got 17 years colour out of your slates as there was no colour guarantee on slate from this era.

You can get you slates cleaned and repainted and they will come up like new, General paints in Co.Kildare sell a 2 coat treatment for repainting older slates

Thanks for the reply Slates. I'm not too worried about the colour.... if I do nothing, will the slates still be OK?

Yea, the slates will be fine. We have a house with man made slates on it for almost 50 years and they are perfect. Change in colour isn't a problem if you don't want to paint them.
