Why are we making such a fuss about Tesco importing uk products. when our own government is doing the same regarding cervical cancer tests.Every woman in ireland is getting a free test and all is sent to the uk for processing.imagine the cost..!
    Why is this ...?
Do we not have a health service we can rely on to do these tests reliably..?
Or is it done to strenghten the uk economy..? and help the unemployment there.
I think we should ask Obama to visit Ireland for a job interview...well we do offer better wages and perks.

    How could he refuse...................

Good point! If the local services are not competent to deal with these requirements they should just be scrapped all together. Otherwise, this business should be done locally.

Aren't the cervical cancer tests not being done in the US? That's what's meant to be taking them so long to get the results back.

You're right though, noone can complain about the cheaper goods being sold in Tescos, they're giving the consumer what they want. If Irish suppliers want to be able to compete, they'll have to reduce their costs, which should include rate reductions from Local Authorities, a reduction in employer's PRSI and a reduction of minimum wage.

With some mortgages having dropped ~40% and rents by 5% in the last year, combined with cheaper goods for sale, there is no reason that minimum wage can't be dropped.

In relation to this the most ironic story is this from the Independent
Govt to monitor impact of Tesco price cuts
    Thursday May 07 2009

The Tanaiste has told the Dail that the Government will be monitoring the impact of supermarket price cuts on Irish jobs.

Earlier this week, Tesco cut the price of thousands of products at 11 stores in border counties as part of an effort to win back shoppers who have been going north of the border to get value for money.

The cuts have been made by importing products from UK distributors who charge less than their Irish counterparts.

This has prompted fears of job losses in Ireland, where 230,000 people are employed in the food sector.

Is this the same government who is led by man who said to the very same Tanaiste
“Bring in those people and get a handle on it,” “You know all those ****ers.”

Now something has been done about it and now they're going to monitior the affects of something they wanted in the first place ?!?
