Seamus Conneely started for the Ireland U-21's today and Shep is on the bench(it's on now btw!). Galway United are the only team to have two players on the U21's

Some interesting outcomes from the GUST EGM last night. From what i am hearing the GUST are getting a member on the board and the club is becoming a co-op. Anyone at the meeting last night be able to give a breakdown of what is happening?

Galway United Supporters Trust got a mandate from those present to legally consitute ourselves as a co-operative. This is with a view to taking a shareholding in the club, and at some stage in the future taking ownership of the club for the supporters.

Galway United FC (separate from GUST) will remain as a limited company for the present.

The GUST "Maroon Army" membership scheme was also launched at the meeting.

"Maroon Army" forms will be available at Monday evenings Premier Division match against Sligo Rovers (Ko 7.45pm).

Galway United will be without Captain, Barry Ryan, for the UCD game through suspension. Ryan will also miss the next game as well. Ciaran Foley (ankle) and Alan Murphy (knee) remain sidelined. Philip Reilly (viral infection) maybe available for selection after missing out last week. On a more positive note, both Seamus Conneely and Jamie McKenzie return after suspension.

“I would go so far as to say that this game against UCD is potentially the biggest game in 17 years for Galway United.” That is the view of Galway United manager Sean Connor, who has pleaded with the Galway sporting public to come out in their droves for United’s key league clash with UCD on Saturday.

“If we win it we still have a chance of overtaking UCD, but if we lose we will almost definitely be in the relegation play-off. I cannot stress enough how important this game is to the future of the club,” he said.

“We need the Galway people to get behind us this week for various reasons. We need a good crowd financially, but we really need the support of the Galwegians behind the lads on Saturday. All year they have been punching above their weight and they deserve to be supported as they try and keep the club in the top flight.”

It has been a tough first season for Connor in charge of United, with dwindling crowds and an even skimpier budget to work with. But despite all the negatives, The Tribesmen still have a realistic chance of securing their top flight status. Connor is hopeful that the rub of the green will favour United in the four remaining matches.

“Things haven’t gone our way for the last few weeks. The simple fact is we have a very small squad and I was always waiting for the suspension to build up and take affect. For the last three of four game we have played without at least two of our first team players and last Friday we played without four.

“If you were to do that with any side they will struggle. I can’t be too critical of the players that came into the side. We have a bench full of kids and we have inexperienced players in key positions and the League of Ireland is a tough, tough league to learn your trade. But the one saving grace for me is that for the next few games we will be nearly at full strength.”

Galway United will hold a race night on Saturday, 9th October, in Monroes Tavern, Dominick Street after the UCD game. All support is appreciated.

Gates will be open 6.45pm. Match will go to extra-time and penalties if there isn't a winner after 90 minutes.

Supporters are reminded that season tickets do not apply for play-off matches.

It's good to see almost everyone is fit for this one. Only Ciaran Foley and Alan Murphy are injured. No suspensions either.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,155 ✭✭✭ErnieBert

Stevie O'Donnell should run rings around Bray,

Bray are bringing a few hundred fans to the game so the atmosphere should be electric.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,950 ✭✭✭Pinturicchio

I'd be very surprised if they brought more than 200.

Looking forward to this..despite a 250km round trip..I expect this to be the last time we'll see Galway United this year..:)

Going up myself, hope there's some proper support :)

One thing though, is there any chance this mightn't go ahead with all the rain? Waterlogged pitch etc?

Very heavy rain as it is, and forecast is like this for today and tonight.

The pitch will be fine. Very well drained. Groundsman confirmed his confidence in the game going ahead this morning.

The weather will give them that edge. Gonna be absolutely awful conditions, for a decent match and fans alike.

The rain has stopped in town.

Some of the best games I've seen in Terryland have been in less than perfect conditions.

    Conditions aren't that bad though.
