Glad I didn't head up to see that crap. What's the point? The end must be nigh. Sad, but Galway soccer needs to take a long, hard look at itself. Three teams in the league when we can't afford one. Half of the Sligo team from Galway. A paranoid manager who goes on about negative coverage, how could anyone be 'positive' about a team that's bottom of the league, in freefall, and loses 8-0 to their most bitter rivals? It's probably the darkest period in the entire history of GUFC. I feel sorry for anyone who bothered to pay in tonight.

Alan Keane was the only player from Galway in Sligo's starting XI. John Russell came on later to make it two. And they are not bitter rivals, for years the rivalry with Athlone was the main rivalry for Galway Utd, this Sligo one has emerged from their side in the late 90s early 00s.
As for the game, we were outplayed, outclassed and simply nowhere near good enough to compete with a top of the table excellent footballing side.

Not that embarassing when the difference in resources is taken into account. Sad that we are as low as we are in terms of confidence, level of ability, finances etc.

By the sounds of it, the players were doing a walking tour of Terryland last night, because they weren't playing football. Worst home defeat ever?

    Yes.

Our previous worst ever defeat was 9-1 away to Derry City in 1989.

8-0 is also our biggest ever win. At home against Monaghan United in 2001.

Our goal that day was the first that Derry City had conceded that season.
Match reporter said Galway United have scored, the first time the Derry defence was breached, but it hardly mattered too much as Derry were 9 up at that stage.

Kim looks like a handy enough winger for you's. Quick and tricky at times. Didn't think too much of Son. Didn't really do much bar get sent off for a reckless challenge in the air. He was getting a fair bit of guff of your left back for most of the game, solely for not doing the simple things or at least doing them well.

    Sean Connor sacked?

    http://www.galwayunitedfc.ie/galway-united-management-committee-statement
The Galway United Management Committee consists of loyal and committed
supporters of the club. Our responsibility is to ensure any actions we take
are in the best interest of the football club. Following a Management
Committee meeting on Tuesday 19th July a unanimous decision was taken to
endorse a motion of no confidence in Sean Connor continuing as manager of
    Galway United Football Club.

In the interests of giving our players every support to secure a result in
Drogheda this evening, we have deferred issuing this statement until after
    the match.

The responsibility now rests with the board of directors to take the
appropriate action in this matter. The Management Committee would like to
thank the Galway public for their continuing support. We assure our
players, supporters and sponsors that we remain committed to the quest to
ensure the future of our club.

The club can't afford to pay him off, so another way has to be found of firing him, or he would have to resign (which won't happen).

This strikes me as very sharp practice if it's the policy of the new regime.

Who do they (the Galway United Management Committee) think they could get in to do a better job? I can't imagine it's the easiest job in the world working under the club's financial constraints.
