As tedole says, neither of the other two grounds have cover, seats, terracing, or hot food.

Galway United play at Terryland Park, one of the best stadia in the country.

Our season ticket price, at €99, will still be cheaper than most First Division clubs.

Is their any proposed link up between GUFC and NUIG? Mutual benefit of sharing facilities and maybe soccer scholarships like Sligo Rovers. Also what is planned for embedding the club into the community?

Galway will be back bigger and better in the future, hopefully sustainably and community based like Rovers in Dublin. Sligo, Cork and Dundalk are all embedded into their communities now. Derry city getting there too with the help of an NI sports grant of a few £million. Even though were in a recession there are a lot of positives in the league right now. Rovers big Euro break through has set the bar for everyone else. Standards will be raised. Next season will be excellent (unfortunately Galway can only look on) Rovers, Sligo, Derry and Pats all decent sides with Cork thankfully back in the premier. Support your local club! :)

That only relates to the holdings of ''Galway United'', GUST will be applying for a license ala Cork City, the name will change again after the 2012 season to something more traditional.

For those of you on mobile devices:
Following the extremely late decision by GUST to withdraw from the transitional agreement to run Galway United Football Club, the directors are left with no option but to withdraw their application for a licence for the Airtricity League 2012 season.

The ensuing twelve months will allow the club to assess strategic and infrastructural changes that are required to be made ahead of an application for the 2013 season. A decision will then be taken as to the best route forward for soccer in Galway and discussions will take place with all stakeholders.

So, no soccer in Terryland next season then :(.

Incorrect, GUST are applying for a 1st division licence and have as good a chance as if they had stayed in the current entity. Try to hold off on jumping the gun people.

Here is the statement issued after the GUST AGM last night.

    GUST apply for 2012 licence

The AGM of Galway United Supporters Trust (GUST) held on Mon 12th Dec 2011 unanimously agreed to

    (i) End its agreement with the directors of Galway United Football Club in relation to its day-to-day
    management of the club.
(ii) Submit an independent licence application for membership of the 2012 Airtricity League in the
name of Galway United Supporters Trust Football Club.

The Supporters Trust chair, David Flaherty, told a well-attended meeting that the challenging experience
of the 2011 season had prepared the Supporters Trust well for the demands of fielding a vibrant,
sustainable club in next season’s First Division.

The Trust’s objective is to return Galway senior soccer back to its roots as a community club run and
    directed by its members.

Secretary Mike Daly told the meeting about the significant backing afforded by the UEFA-funded
organisation “Supporters Direct”. The mission statement of Supporters Direct is to promote sustainable
spectator sports clubs, based on supporters' involvement and community ownership. A representative
from this organisation recently travelled to Galway and has thrown their considerable weight and
expertise behind the efforts of GUST in preparing the licence application.

Incorrect, GUST are applying for a 1st division licence and have as good a chance as if they had stayed in the current entity. Try to hold off on jumping the gun people.

They have a better chance. That's why this decision was taken by GUST.

www.galwayunitedfc.ie is in control of the directors of GU Football Club Ltd., not members of GUST. Any statements issued on there now are from the directors.

As far as I'm concerned GUST FC will be playing on Friday evenings, in maroon jerseys, in Terryland Park, in the League of Ireland this season.

Being honest here there is no reason soccer will progress. We've tried to get people into games (the cup match against Derry City was the last big crowd I saw at a match) but being so far outside of Dublin it seems hard to see players being able to make a living, When rugby is getting more popular and GAA at its lowest point is still surviving you can't have much optimism for Galway soccer and in a way Irish soccer.

it seems hard to see players being able to make a living,
Run responsibly and sustainably, there is no reason that players couldn't make a decent living out of football and be based in Galway.

For the foreseeable future, this won't be possible though. You might get a handful of players including one or two from around the country who might be offered a wage capable of sustaining them on its own, but outside of that you would have to have a mixture of part-time players and young players who are still in education.

We've tried to get people into games (the cup match against Derry City was the last big crowd I saw at a match)
Some sort of measure of success or excitement at the very least is the only thing that will bring crowds to games. We don't have to win the league. Look at the crowds we got challenging for the First Division.

We don't need massive gates to be able to develop either. Rebuild the fan-base bit by bit. No mad sprees. People will come when they get a bit of excitement. Any decent squad in the league could get into the League Cup semi final, as we did, and it drew a great crowd. Also, look at how many people travelled to Belfied for the relegation deciding match in 2008. That was hardly a glamour tie.

Something like 2,800 or 2,900 came to Terryland for the 3-0 win against Harps the week before, despite the fact that the weather was atrocious AND the game was on television.
Being honest here there is no reason soccer will progress.
you can't have much optimism for Galway soccer and in a way Irish soccer.
God you're making me depressed listening to you. Aren't Shamrock Rovers awful depressing, qualifying for European competitions, depressing us all. They should just disband and let the council bulldoze Tallaght Stadium.

Should all go well for GUST FC, they will be welcomed by the Galway FA as anchor tenants in Terryland Park, a very nice place to watch a football match. While Galway United were making promises to the owners of the ground left right and centre that they seldom if ever honoured, GUST came to the table and worked with the Galway FA to pay what they could of what was owed, no thanks to the club of course.

Hopefully all going well, GUST FC or whatever form it eventually takes, will be a force capable of challenging for the First Division a few years down the line again.

Yep I have come across as the depressed guy in Father Ted there. I wish them nothing but the best of luck getting the club back in order.
