Fair play to that VinnyGUFC guy for uploading those highlights after every match, it's great to be able to see what went on every Friday when I have to work put together so well. Cheers Foxx92!

It's an excellent service for the reasons mentioned. Also hand to see the action from another angle when you get home.

Think myself and Dad are going along. I only get home from Limerick from college at 6 which is why I don't go to the matches but seeing as it's the last match of the season, we'll make a go of getting there for it.

Hope they get good support, they haven't been doing too badly so that might spark some atmosphere into the stadium.

    Galway Advertiser, November 05, 2009.

Though severely restricted by the absence of its regular central defensive partnership, Galway United will still be intent on landing a victory in tomorrow's Terryland Park encounter with Cork City. With similarly crucial matches elsewhere involving St Patrick's Athletic v Shamrock Rovers, and Sligo Rovers v Drogheda United, there will be no shortage of final day drama.

Aaron Greene's splendid equaliser at Tallaght Stadium steered Galway into sixth place and the teenager's delightful strike laid bare the Hoops frailties when armed with a lead on home terrain. United manager Ian Foster was satisfied with the endeavour Galway paraded in the capital."We were obviously delighted. I think all the hype coming into the game was about Shamrock Rovers, but it was as important for us as it was for them. I think my players showed that with their will and determination to get around the pitch, and work hard for each other. I thought we fully deserved the point. Aaron Greene did really well. He worked his socks off, and he did everything I asked of him off the ball, and you always get a chance. It was a chance he created himself, he turned the defender inside out, and then smashed it in the bottom corner. The boy is a fantastic talent, but he has got a great work ethic as well, he is a pleasure to work with."

Despite that stirring revival Galway's focus has quickly turned to the Leesiders, and it is a grave pity that Garry Breen and Shane Guthrie are ruled out through suspension. Breen was dismissed in Tallaght, while a yellow card accumulation ensures the under-rated Guthrie will not feature either."It won't be easy because the two lads have been massive for us all season in more ways than one. But that is football, it is part and parcel of it, you have to deal with suspensions. We have a small squad and I was literally down to 16 for the Rovers' game."Iarfhlaith Davoren, bothered by a hamstring injury, might return at left full in a defensive reshuffle that is likely to see Sean Kelly

Ian Foster walked out on Galway United to join Dundalk. He had another year to run on his contract so he expect a day in court. He thus follows in the steps of Jeff Kenna in jumping ship.

I'll be expecting Galway United to get 12 points off Dundalk next season so! Add that to the 12 points from Pats and that's good!

Good omen, I can feel it! :D

    So who takes his place?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,728 ✭✭✭Col200sx

Such a shame. I liked Foster a lot. He had them playing decent football towards end of the season on very limited resources and having to sell some of the best players.

He's brought through some good talent, and against the odds kept them in the division (albeit we never know what would've happened in the play-offs with Derry Citys plight)

Unfortunately I think every player is out of contract, so I fear some of the better talent may leave. Cue Flaherty, Russell and Conneely all going (hope not).

I wish Ian Foster well, he hasn't jumped like Jeff Kenna did:rolleyes:

There will be no such thing. Galway United breached the contract between them, rendering it invalid when they repeatedly failed to pay him on time. Foster, knowing he would have nothing to work with next year had the courtesy to ask Nick Lesson for permission to talk to Dundalk, even though there was no valid contract between them.

Nick Leeson refused, leaving him with no choice but to resign.

Doolin for United? Foster was a decent manager. Hope he does well at Dundalk

Not a chance. The new manager will be local based.

Not really, the talk among the fans has ended, best way is to keep up to date with the Birmingham website, last time i checked about 2 weeks ago he was starting most games for the reserves(to that point)

Just wondering though whether not paying exactly according to schedule would be enough to repudiate a contract though assuming he was paid up to date.

The breach by Foster in walking out with a year to go is a lot bigger than a breach in the timing of payments no?

    Hi,
I heard about this upcoming event (I'm not linked to it), sounds like it could be interesting

To help raise funds for Galway United F.C. they’re having an evening with 2 football legends and 1 non-legend.

Evening forum (with finger food) with Paul McGrath, Ray Houghton and John Delaney, Salthill hotel, 15th December, 8pm.

I suppose contact Galway United or hotel in interested.

    Cheers,
    Pa.
