I have a 02 ford focus hatch 1.8 tddi. it has served me well but the turbo is gone and i got a quote from ford main dealer of e 2500 and thats just too much. Im thinking about getting a second hand turbo or reconditioned one but not sure what to do as its a big job. I can get a secondhand turbo for e250 but will have to get oil pipe and feed pipe new but they are not expencive. Its the labour to fit them Im consirned about.

Ford main dealer tell me it will take day or day and half other place says half a day.

If anyone could help me out or enlighten me in anyway id appreciate it.

Stay away from the main stealer. They will rob you anyway. Get a re-con unit and bring it to an independant garage to get it fitted. It'll be much cheaper than that. Alternatively, depending on where your based...try a place called Assured Performance. They specialise in turbos and have a fairly good name.

ya i figured they would rob me. If I get a re-con and new feed pipe and oil pipe along with gasket how long should it take to repair and how good does the garage have to be because i know a few guys at home in mayo but working in cork these guys dont run a garage but are handy with cars and stuff.

    Paddy

Give these guys a shout in the UK - http://www.ford-turbochargers.co.uk

Ive bought a couple of turbos of them for ford transit vans, and they charged 630euro (ex vat) per unit. I had mechanic in Galway put them in for approx 350euro. Total saving of almost 1300 on Irish price!

Give the 2 fingers up to the ford dealerships here. They have ripped people off enough for the last few years.

See if the breakers will fit the turbo for you, that way if the turbo's no use (happened to me before) you won't need to pay for its fitting.

IMO 300-350 for a rebuilt and tested turbo is better than 250 for a questionable one.
