eircom line rental, other options?

Just want to know if there is an option open to us here? Is it possible to get rid of the eircom line rental and get a 'fixed mobile phone' as it were ie like a landline without the rental. Our local exchange has not been 'enabled 'yet to receive broadband so we got a LAN service which is good but doesn't support a voip…

Our local exchange has not been 'enabled 'yet to receive broadband so we got a LAN service which is good but doesn't support a voip very well, dropped calls etc. Is there an 'aerial' we could get to boost our service, ie on our chimney as our area is hilly and the coverage is not that good sometimes. We spend more on rental than calls at the moment. We are 20 miles from Cork city.
