There was a thread on this subject before but just to start the ball rolling again: I was walking through the Green this evening with the other half and stopped to watch some tufted ducks diving in the pond. Next thing, 2 pike appear, 1 about 2ft long, the other 1 ft. The water wasn't more than 12 inches deep and there they were in broad daylight. They were swimming together like they were mating. Both looked pretty sickly - reminded me of diseased mullet. Couldn't believe it!

They will be just finished spawning, and in bad condition as a result.
Over the next months (if there's coarse fish ready to spawn) they will regain condition.

I remeber seeing a dead three pund mullet in the freshwater pond in st annes and wondering how it got there.

Anybody else seen the huge carp in the pond in Herbert park?

I was in that park a few years ago by the pond, I heard a big splash and seen a huge Carp on the surface. It was a wopper.
