hi hay would normally be for feeding cattle, where as straw would be used for bedding cattle in the winter.

Have some straw if you need it

When grain is cut, Oats, Barley, Wheat etc the main stalks are dried and end up as straw, straw is golden yellow and coarse.
Hay is just normal meadow grass, cut and dried and is usually finer than straw and a more grey/brown colour.
Chickens love picking at straw, hay not as much.

Hi Vic, No hard feelings, just looked like a Pi$$ take!

Is it a philosophical query or scientific study or botanical?

Having actually taken in the question, I can see where you might be coming from as both are stalks supporting the flower (seeds) so to speak
So in answer to your question it would seem to me that they are the same but just from different variety of plant

(Now if only I'd thought of that before I spread slurry)
