Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

B-Builder, the cage is a bit pointless for floor wipers.
Assuming you've benched before, then holding 60kg at lockout isn't that hard. Arms aren't an issue for floor wipers, the hard part is trying to keep lifting you legs, doing the 300 work out means 100 raises total, you abs get fcuked long before you might lose the weight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,640 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

    Oh, almost forgot.
Tried some 1RMs for the first time last night, normally do 5-8 rep sets

    @78kg
    Squat 120kg x 1
    Deadlift 150kg x 1 (a lot closer to 2xBW than expected)

I don't want to drag this up all over again. But my point was I have never tried floor wipers, though I have seen one or two folks in my gym do them.

When you bench, your feet should be planted firmly on the floor, so holding a bar at lockout should not be a problem. I have see folks bench with their feet a) up on the bench, b) just up in the air, and the bar at lock out doesn't look anywhere near stable.

Personally I prefer doing toes to bar on a pull-up bar. However if I was to attempt floor wipers, I would imagine that the first couple of times without your feet for support, and actually pulling your feet up to each side may create a type of rolling motion. Now before everybody jumps in to tell me this should not happen if you are doing it correctly, I know this. However not being sure that I would be perfect the first few times, I think I would be inclined to use the cage.

This is where I was coming from when I made that suggestion earlier.

    Your still missing the point.
I've seen people bench with legs up too, its not stable.

But this isn't an issue with flor wipers as, the floor is more stable than a bench (I don't care if you've seen people doing floor wipers on a bench too, they shouldn't).
With floor wipers you are using a much lower weight than you would use on a bench work set, its much easier to keep stable.
I did FWs for the first time a few weeks ago, trust me, a rack will get in the way, be awkward to set up and its a waste of time imo. Press off boxes is better imo, its not hard to drop the weight back on to these if you need to.

If you are concerned about stability, then drop the weight down a bit.

Now this here is the problem.
I know that they don't do what dartstothesea asked if they do do.

But Frankly, we are getting into head above the trench territory and I'm just not in the form for explaining what I think and having someone mongo all over some tiny detail in the post or tell me I need to be lifting BWx2.36 before I need to use a belt.

So at the risk of sounding like a dick, I'm just gonna post this link, which has in turn a link to 3 posts on belts, which I found useful in deciding if or if not to wear a belt.

Try bracing your abs now, then try bracing them while pressing your hands/fingers into your abs.

Indeed and a useful link that... although you have opened yourself up to people taking issue with (mongo-ing perhaps?) your use of an offensive term like mongo :o

If anyone has a problem with one use of the word mongo and not with brahs calling things gay every couple of posts in this and the logs forum, then they're right to resent the former word because it definitely applies to them.

everything in the logs forum is gay brah.

and Hanley.. he's just a homosexual.

Well we do seem to have a bit of that here. Is it true for other boards forums? There's also far too much use of gay and retard. I'm gonna give the benefit of the doubt and assume you weren't suggesting that I didn't have a problem with the offensive use of 'gay' and thus was a/an [insert offensive epithet here] ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 890 ✭✭✭dartstothesea

Nah I wasn't giving out to anyone for taking issue with mongo. It's just funny how it doesn't even seem to occur to people about the other thing, makes me think like they're from a different planet.

Actually I'll just check out D'Oracle's link there.
