Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

His current walking around weight. From looking /stalking at his youtube comments he is aiming for 94kg class or 105kg. In my uneducated opinion 105kg would be too heavy for him.

he walked around with 170 odd kilo over his head the other night....the your fella will be grand...

Nobody said anything. It was a question.

I was asking if he could make weight for 77kg if he wished. I'd assume he could. Clarified now, he is aiming for higher classes. A bit surprised tbh.

Just surprised he's aiming for 105kg.
I'd have thought his "frame" (know that a bit bollox really) was better suited to around 85kg
I don't know the guy from adam, only from vids posted here. And obviosuly he, and the people around him, have a far better idea of what he should do.

I’ve never met him either, but purely from looking at him, he looks a bit skinny at 85kg (assuming that’s his weight now). He seems like he could be fairly tall, and while he’s smashing sh*t at his current weight, if he truly wants to be competitive at a world class level moving up is probably the correct option, at least for now until he establishes some more muscle mass.

Look at world class dudes, then look at him. Purely in physique terms, he doesn’t “look” the part, tho his lifting speaks for itself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,234 ✭✭✭Edwardius

He ain't that skinny in person, if he filled out the 85s he'd be walking around at about 89-90 probably (from 83) and around 98-100 as a 94, so that's probably a few years worth of growing.

Think Dimas used to walk around at 90 odd (and had bests of 190/225, 320back squat, 280 front squat), although I dunno if you "need" a 280kg front squat to clean 225. I think ninja front squatted about 200 and seems to clean 180 fairly handily so "filling out" the 85 class could possibly see maybe a 200 clean and I reckon he could snatch 160 odd, that'd be knocking on the door of top 5 in europe, which is ridiculous!

I hear L taught him everything he knows

That 100kg snatch is absolutely ridiculous. That is my long term (if ever) goal and he's throwing it around like an empty bar.

I was going on the assumption he could add 7kg and still be 85 class.

I think a good rule of thumb is front squatting 20-30% more than your clean or 3-5 reps to guarantee making it, so 280 would make sense.

Depends on a few other things too of course.

I'd say most top lifters weigh in the 94's or 105's at his height, maybe even supers plus he looks like he could put on a lot more weight.

I have recently started squatting and deadlifting with my runners off(socks on), I find it much more comfortable and more stable for lifting, and find my form much better this way too.

Is this a bad idea in the long run? I’m not lifting huge weight, squatting about 100kg.

Shouldn't do either in trainers. I still do both in socks. Hasn't done me any harm, weightlifting shoes or work boots can make squatting more comfortable for some.

A lot of gyms might be against you walking around in socks. I got in trouble about it in Kingfisher in Galway, the reason was that if a weight dropped on my foot it would do so much more damage to my toes then if I was wearing my converse...

come to think of it if people wore steel toe caps theyd probably be far better off then in some of the wobble board runners you see in the gym!

    400kg DL with no belt.
    JAYSIS!

400kg makes my 170kg look like childsplay! On the subject of belts when do you think one would start to need a belt for max DLs? As mentioned above my 1RM is a 170kg, reckon by Christmas i'll be hopefully pulling a 180/190 at 90-92kg BW at 6ft.

Does it depend on the person? Flexibility? A comfort/low risk thing? I never tend to get back injuries and I do a lot of core work anyway in order to keep the midsection strong. BUUUUTTT sometimes I feel I leave a little bit in the gym in particular with the deadlift from a fear of pushing too hard, resulting in injury. For example after my 170 the other night I felt I had a 50/50 shot at a 180 but decided not to go for it and I don't know whether that's a good thing (lower risk of injury) or maybe i'm depriving myself of much quicker/bigger gains!

I'd put on a belt at around 85-90% of 1RM so as soon as you're in the 145kg bracket and above id put a belt on.

Make sure you get a proper powerlifting belt, thats 10mm in thickness the whole way around. Single prong buckle belt is what you should be looking for.

I'm in between two minds about it. At the moment I'm following their posts and liking a good bit of their stuff. It's not that what they're posting is fantastic content wise or really has much to contribute content wise its just that there are not many female logs for me to read, nor do i know many females that train, so in a way i just like reading their posts as insights into what they do and why...on the otherhand the whole female empowerment thing is abit OTT and they do like the ole self praise a bit too :D:D

Yes, but at the same time there is not a huge pool of other females who train that blog/log/share their training. Like even in the fitness logs here on boards I amnt highly interested in the guys logs as they mean relatively little to me, also ive never even had a female training partner so I am curious about what others do.

But yeh, I get what your saying, I tend not to read their numbers too often as some of them aren't really top notch numbers to strive for. As soon as they go really commercial and start selling merchandise I'll probably give up reading the bits and pieces that I had been reading!

Yeah, those girls are unusually delish, for the most part. Something's up there. Then again, they are unusually delish. They seem to be making a bit more of a circle jerk out of their training than I thought would be necessary, but I guess some people like the fun in that. Not me though >:[

    Stage 1: Recruit Hanleyites

Point b: Convince them good old fashioned manual labour is the only way to achieve the shredded abs they've only dreamt about! You base your knowledge on the pyramids and perhaps even coin the term 'slavefit'.

Numero trois: Run daily / weekly sessions of 'functional strength' training like breeze block stacks for time and mix mortar / wheelbarrow mortar AMRAP.

Step 5: Convince them that the gym they've built is your temple and have them worship you as their deity.

    Penultimate stage: ???????????????????????????
