Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

But, as mentioned nobosy actually has 3 years CF experience that isn't running a DF gym atm.
I'd say any hockey exp and a CF Lvl 1 would get it

I so glossed over that bit. I was going to reply that he should go for it anyway but by that stage my brain was fried and my sentences didn't make much sense.

Yeah aslong as you get it locked out overhead it's good. You can muscle snatch press if you want.

Makes sense that you could power or muscle snatch if you wanted. Both still snatches. Just wasn't sure if press out counts as it's not a legit snatch.

Yeah they aren't bothered with that in crossfit. Which is fine. This is my own opinion but I reckon the main reason you aren't allowed pressout in weightlifting is that it doesn't look pretty. Which is also fine*

Is it wrong that I'm getting bored of Bill Starr's Beginner 5x5 after just 3 weeks?

Squats and bench every workout gets tedious tbh

You'd think but it's not. Recovery seems to be a bit of an issue by the end of the week.

Throw up the template you're using, because that doesn't sound right to me.

As far as I remember, the beginner template was:

    Heavy Day:
    Squat
    Bench
    Row

    Light Day:
    Squat
    incline bench
    Power clean

    Medium Day
    Squat
    Press
    Deadlift.

With some accessory thrown in, can't remember the rep ranges for each day. When I did the intermediate template, recovery wasn't really an issue.

Here is the template - http://muscleandbrawn.com/bill-starrs-beginner-5x5-workout/

    Monday (Heavy Day – > 85%)
Back Squats: 5 x 5 Ramping weight to top set of 5 reps across 5 sets
Bench Press: 5 x 5 Ramping weight to top set of 5 reps across 5 sets
Deadlifts: 5 x 5 Ramping weight to top set of 5 reps across 5 sets

    Wednesday (Light Day – <70%)
    Back Squats: 5 x 5 using 60% of Monday’s weight
    Bench Press: 5 x 5 using 60% of Monday’s weight
Pullups: 5 x 5 Ramping weight to top set of 5 reps across 5 sets

    Friday (Medium Day – 70-85%)
    Back Squats: 5 x 5 using 80% of Monday’s weight
    Bench Press: 5 x 5 using 80% of Monday’s weight
Rows: 5 x 5 Ramping weight to top set of 5 reps across 5 sets

Heavy squats and deadlifts on the same day really don't sound like a great idea to me. But who am I to argue with Bill Starr? Having said that though, he did do many and varied updates to his original template.

Its actually not bad on the Monday cause you had Saturday and Sunday off. There does seem to be lots of different workouts from him with A, B and C versions.

As I said, I'm sure Mr. Starr know's what he's up to. I liked the heavy/light/medium arrangment because you're always making progress week to week but there's an inbuilt security to make sure you don't do anything stupid if you simply follow the program.

I'd stick with it for a while, let us know how you get on.

I think there was a method to it though. A strong squat should carry over to deadlift.
