Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I have the barbell that comes in that package, I wouldn't recommend it tbh. I've had two of them and have had problems with both. First one bent after very little use and they replaced it. Second one didn't bend but one of the sleeves locked up after a few months.

I wouldn't have a problem dealing with strength shop, they're good guys, but I wouldn't recommend that bar if it's going to be dropped from overhead with bumpers.

I was going to go for the coloured bumpers and bar upgrade, is it the standard bar that you had issues with?

Yep I had the spring steel weightlifting bar. I have no experience with the perpetual bar, they offer a lifetime warranty on it though so I guess it must be better quality.

Anyone point me in the direction of a decent bar and bumper package.
I know Mickk was supposed to be getting them in, they are not on the irish lifting site but he could well have some.

10 year warranty on the plates and a lifetime on the bar if you upgrade for 500 sterling....

    Christ thats a savage deal.

Can anybody suggest an online site store that sells a good olympic weight set at a reasonable price?

Something like this but I'm presuming that's way overpriced because it's maximuscle and better value can be gotten elsewhere?

There's plenty on Hanleys YouTube page, he actually sent out a foam roller manual not too long ago. Or YouTube in general has loads.

    Hi,

If I train legs on a monday is it advisable to go for a run (around 5k on the road) on tuesday or wednesday as part of a cardio regime, or is waiting a better option for recovery. I train a 4 day split at the moment.

    Thanks.

i dont see a problem with it. my leg day is wednesday. i also do calves mon & fri.

on tues and thurs i cycle for 30mins.

taken together the legs are the largest muscle group (half ur body) and can take quite a pounding. just make sure youre feeding them properly.

A new diet has hit the scene. The principle is that if we eat in the same manner as animals we will eat less calories. Instructional video below.

Yeah I know they're big and I don't feel like I'd be ****ing myself up if I ran, but I want optimal training in the long run, rather than doing whatever I can, if that makes sense.

I like to train with intensity, I eat regularly and I eat well, also I take good quality supplements to help with recovery. I focus more on the contraction of the muscle and getting a full range of motion than lifting as much weight as I can, not that there is anything wrong with weightlifting. I suppose I'm more a bodybuilder than a weightlifter when it comes to my workouts.

As well as a dedicated leg day I cycle 5 miles every day (part of going to and fro to college) and I would walk a few miles too. I like running a lot, just want to know if it would impede recovery to run regularly as well as do a leg session. Also, say I was lifting in the 3 to 6 rep range, going heavy (relatively speaking) and going for more mass, would running affect that differently than the it would a 15 rep range leg session?

3 to 6 rep range for legs would be considered strength training. to build mass id recommend 8-12 reps.
today was my own leg day.
ive had very good results with 3 sets of 10 of squats, front squats, stiff leg deadlift and standard deadlift. i mix in 3 sets of 15 standing calves and then seated calves. i finish with lighter seated ext and seated curl to failure. im ready for the couch after that!

bare in mind im working my legs once a week, wit 2 other days for calves.
i find this high volume effective for me.

what if you try mixing up the rep ranges from week to week, see how you respond. lots of programs recommend this:

I usually do a full body workout in the gym three days a week, for the last week it feels like my legs haven't been recovered fully. I gave them an extra day off there last day and it helped I think. Just wondering if there's something I could do to help recovery? I've recently upped the intensity of my training but don't know if it'd merit doing a split instead of full body workout?

Hitting about 100g protein per day, weigh around 124/125lbs

I had a bit of trouble getting to sleep over that last week too, seemed like the more exhausted I was the worse I slept. I also seem to wake up two hours after I get to sleep a lot of nights?

I try and foam roll after most workouts, and do a few leg stretches. It's only my legs that really get sore

I suppose it was probably just a rough week, but thanks for your help!

I keep f*cking psyching myself out when deadlifting!!!

Every time I hit the same or higher than my PB I freeze up mentally when I set up and grab the bar. Currently I'm stuck at 150kg (I've lifter 160 before). Today, after the rest of my back workout, I did two reps of 100, 110, 120, 130, 140 and when I hit 150 I hit a wall mentally. The 140kg was no problem at all, I've been working a bit on my set up for the deadlift and it paid off.

When I do lift the heaviest I have tried it's not exactly hard, the bottom third is challenging, trying to brace the abdomen is strenuous but I never feel like I'm truly pushing myself. I don't believe it's a physical limitation.

Based on my overall strength I reckon I should be able to lift way heavier than I'm doing but I can't get the bar off the ground. Today one of the lads started shouting at me to lift it (it's a gym without instructors or people who care about that sort of stuff) and I just went over and lifted it.

Would taking the bar from a rack and then lowering it to the floor and back up be beneficial I wonder? (not a rack pull, just starting from the rack and stepping back away from it to deadlift normally).

I really like the deadlift and it's the only one that my mind is afraid of.

If you know you can lift it, tell yourself that. A positive mental attitude is the way to go. I've gotta pull 162.5kg for a double this week, I posted in my log about my negativity and how unsure I was that it would even get off the floor. A few of the lads posted some tough love and now I can't wait for it to come round cause I know it'll come up and I know I'll smash it and my PR by 10kg!

Morale of the story, if you know you can lift it, tell yourself exactly that. Don't go into it saying 'Oh, I don't know it's heavy and blah blah blah...'. :pac:

Alternatively, go on the Coan programme because speaking from experience no matter what the weight is, no matter how heavy it is, you'll lift it because you simple don't want to go through any more of the torture that it entales:pac:

Disclaimer: I am not being payed by anyone to advertise the Coan DL programme even though I've recommended it to just about everyone:pac:

No experience with them. FWIW F&F (€3 Tesco) t-shirts are about the best quality I've had. I'm planning on printing a couple of those.

That's the 1st thing, next time do it at the start of your workout when you're fresh, fatigue is only going to have a negative effect.
You as good as said yourself that you're over thinking it, use an MP3 player next time and block out all thoughts.
Personally when I max out at deadlift the limit can kind of jump out of nowhere, Ill lift x amount and its fine, I add 10kg and the bar feels like its been bolted to the ground
