Yeah that's a mixed grip. Most people (by most people I mean me...) find that the mixed grip is a lot more stable and less limiting. Chalk will help too and your grip letting you down is totally normal when your DL gets heavier.

    That's good to know. Cheers.

That's a hook grip, usually used by weightlifters and not powerlifters. We use it because it allows for more solid flexibility when the bar comes beyond hip height and you need to get under the bar as opposed to staying over it.

Ok, that makes sense alright. My learning for today is complete. :D

Were you using chalk actually? If not I'd try that before mixing the grip.

I wasn't using chalk. Also I wont have access to a decent set of weights for I don't know how long. :( The gym that I use (other than Bridgestone) is not a lifting gym. I'm considering investing in a set of those weights from irishlifting but a new heavy bag is higher up on the priority list.

    1. Front Squat 100kg
    2. Clean 100kg

    4. Put 2. and 3. together :D

Which would be harder? The clean or the jerk? Cleaning 100KG sounds very very difficult.

Nice Front squat g'em, I've been itching to try a 1rm max with them lately, you've only made that more appealling!

Depends on the individual tbh. My current jerk 1RM is higher than my current clean 1RM, although given that my FS numbers are high I should definitely be able to clean more (it's said you should be able to clean ~ 80% of your FS 1RM or it's = your FS 3RM). Either way, my clean = pants. I'm having difficult extending long enough at the top of the clean so that I can get under it. More clean pulls and old fashioned practice are the way forward.

My jerk is mostly restricted by my lack of speed in getting under the bar. My legs are strong enough to propel it up, but my body isn't quick enough dropping down. Most other stuff like keeping my elbows up and retracting the scaps are fine, it's just hte explosive power that's lacking.

    It'll happen though ;)

What do you do to improve that?
    Just more Cleans?

Pretty much!! My training right now is high volume for cleans, and we don't do any real "assistance" work as such - we just train the lifts themselves.

    This is my weekly schedule:

    Day 1
    1. Snatch: Work up to 80-85% for 3 x sets of 2
    2. Snatch Pull: Work up to 95-105% (of best snatch) for 3 sets of 2
    3. Power & Squat Clean: Work up to 75%+ for 3 sets of 2

    Day 2
    1. Power Snatch: Work up to 75-85% for 3 x sets of 3
    2. Clean & Jerk: Work up to 75-85% for 3 x sets of 2+1
    3. Front Squat: Work up to 80-90% for 3 sets of 3

    Day 3
    1. Power + Squat Snatch: Work up to 75-80% for 3 x sets of 2
    2. Cleans: Work up to 80-90% for 3 x sets of 2
    3. Front Squat: Work up to 80%+ for 3 x 3
    4. Press: Work up to 3-5 top sets of 3-5 reps

    Day 4
    1. Snatch: Work up to 85-92.5% for 3-4 singles
    2. Power Jerk: Work up to 75-80% (of best Jerk) for 3 sets of 3
    3. Back Squat: Work up to 75%+ for 3 sets of 5

If I feel up to it I can do a brief Day 5 recovery, but the above has me pretty wasted by weeks' end tbh. Weightlifting is full body training, start to end, and my CNS can only take so much. Olympians train 12+ times a week but it takes years to train your body for that kind of efficiency (as well as on-call physio's, nutritionists, sports massage therapists... :D)

Very very nice. I'm a way way off of that.

I deadlifted 115KG while away there recently. Weight is around 65KG at the moment.

Good going considering you don't deadlift much, Khannie.

I saw some of her videos over in The Ladies Lounge.
I wanted to compliment her on her snatch but I couldn't think of an appropriate way to phrase it.

One of the few times my linguistic flair has failed me.
    Sorry g'em.
