    Hi Folks,

Was doing some research and googling, and came across these. There called Universal Software Radio Peripheral devices. Basically a motherboard that you can snap in a whopping selection of TX and RX boards. Personally, I'd be fairly interested in this as a hugely expandable scanner. The recievers included 30Mhz, 50Mhz to 870Mhz and a 800Mhz to 2.4Ghz units.

    Full Board Details: http://www.ettus.com/downloads/er_ds_usrp_v5b.pdf

Full "Plug In" Module Details: http://www.ettus.com/downloads/er_ds_txrx_dbrds_v4.pdf

The boards can be bought here: http://www.ettus.com/ and the software to control them is availible here: http://www.gnu.org/software/gnuradio/

Anyone with a bit more tech knowledge able to tell me if it would do for audio reception with the ability to expand out if needs be? I have no desire to use the TX here in Ireland.

It seems FM and AM radio, analogue TV and hdtv are possible as well as various digital modes. Without actually downloading and compiling the GNU software, its hard to know what exactly is possible.
I think there are a couple of forums (Google them) that may help you.

I may put a couple of hours aside some evening and try to compile the software as it looks interesting.
