Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Thailand - Mobile Phones

I'll be in Thailand for a good while this summer with a couple of mates and we were thinking it might be a good idea to pick up some pre-pay sim-cards over there so we can keep in touch without breaking the bank.

Can anyone advise me on the players in the market over there? How much can we expect to pay for calls & texts?

    Cheers

I'd recommend getting a DTAC Happy card and asking for their Simple plan as you've no time limit to use your credit. It might be a tiny bit dearer to ring local phones but it's annoying having only 7 days to use up 100 THB credit.

The SIM card should cost you around €2 if I remember correctly.

Phones can be got cheap over here but a lot will be second hand. It's not too cheap though to get a legitimate quality phone like say the iPhone. Cheap knock-offs can be got easily though.

there is a big group of us going over so we thought it would be a good idea to buy a basic phone and some credit for the month, so you think it would be fairly cheap to get that?

sorry for crashing your thread btw:o

I had considered this but I was a little concerned with how effective they would be in the cities where line-of-sight is obstructed everwhere by buildings.

you're all looking to buy a phone and credit to ring each other or to use to phone back to Ireland?

any unlocked phone will take a thai sim card so you might not need to buy a phone. if your phones are locked you could pick up a basic nokia for about €40 i'd say.

this is the card that i'd recommend to try get your hands on.

it costs hardly nothing to ring a thai number and the equivalent of 20 cent to text to Ireland.
