Well as above says finally got out with my tikka t3 lite in a .223 today. Have not had a chance due to work and so on, was also waiting on some mounts. Well the morning was good lovely and sunny but quite a bit of wind about between 5 to 7 mph at times blowing from west to east. The field that I zero my rifles on is about 400 yards in length with a raised mound at the top so a good safe back stop. The field is at about a 45 degree angle so all shooting was up hill towards the safe backstop off the haris bipod in the prone position with No rear rifle butt bag.

After a shot or two or three was on paper using American Eagle HP 50g which did not group the best. The tikka is a 1 in 8 " twist rate so maybe they were a little light. Range was 100 yards using my Leica 1200 rangefinder.

Then tried some Sako 55 gr with some good results a 4 shot group sub one inch so was pretty happy with those.

Also tried Horandy v max 55gr with great results a 3 shot group :D two touching and one straight two catching the edge so happy days.

As you can see the american eagles did not do to well but that could of been down to me also.

After the above picture was taken I dialled the scope at 1" high at 100 yards.

All in all pretty happy with the results it was good to get out its been about six weeks since I picked up the rifle.

My setup is as follows : Tikka T3 Lite .223, Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5 -30 x 50, Sako Optilocks medium rings and bases ( could probably have gone with the low mounts ), Harris swivel bi-pod 6"- 9 ", Butler Creek sling, Leica 1200 rangefinder and a pair of Redhead Binos 10 x 42. A Rifle butt cheek piece from Aim Field Sports.

Seen one this morning in the same field were i was zeroing a big cub to. The noise from the rounds did not seem to affect him at all, he was just working the bushes was looking at him for a minute or two. Seen a huge black cat as well not your normal looking ones but one of those big long hairy ones he had a big pink collar on him, we were watching him for a few minutes to see was after a rabbit or anything and to be honest Id say the rabbits would die of fright with the size of him :D, he would not be one for running after them.

Thanks for the replies lads its been great to get out for a while. And jw you are 100 % right :D:D, im sure the finns do good movies to.

    A t4 might be a option

Nice set up. Its an easy mistake to over estimate the heigth of the optilock mounts, I've done it too.

I am waiting for the paperwork to come back from the "park" on a T3 Lite and have a simmons prohunter 6-24x44 scope (1" tube). Would anyone care to suggest suitable mounts? Dont want to be too high but dont want to buy mounts now and find them too low for 44.
Maybe someone here might have some experience with this or similar set up.

Worth having a good chat with you dealer and see what he has in stock, if you go for the optilocks you will get away with low mounts I have probably over a quater of an inch or more to spare. They are not cheap either by the way:(. Would have a look at millet, burris or leupold rings

Get a picatinny rail for your T3,endless amount of rings to suit and cheaper in long run, dont buy 1" rings no matter what you do,30mm and reduce to 1",chances are you'll upgrade scope in future,IMO of course!!!
