    Hi all, sorry its long..

i bough a bischon frise pup less than two weeks ago..within days she became ill showing nuerological symptoms and acting very strangly (head close to the ground, hanging head backwards, walking against the walls, unresponsive,i have brought her to the vet 3 times and have spent 500 on vet fees.- i hadnt my insurance forms posted before her first visit so she wasnt under cover,i have got insurance since however if its pre-existing than im assuming she will not be covered. the first visit they kept her in over night and the following day, she did get back to normal so they let her home..
i have just returned yet again from the emergency cover vet as she is showing the same symptoms. Im not sure what to do..? i exremly mad and upset i paid alot of money to buy a very sick pup,i am fond of her but im not sure where to go from here i have only had her 11 days). the vet has just implied that she has liver shaft next step would be a series of test and ultrasounds to confirm and eventually she would need surgery (she advised a specialist vet would have to be flown in to do this!) all this will could cost thousands..am i within rights to ring the breeder and give her back ? can anybody advise im extremly upset and confused??

I would get back on to the breeder. You should at least get the cost of the pup back. But to be honest it's not a money issue, the health of the pup is your main concern but I'd still want the breeder to be made aware of the problem.

You may not want to hear this but if she has that many complications & needs operations then it might be kinder to put her to sleep. I would do anything to help a dog that is ill but if the little pet is going to suffer more in the long run then it is something you have to prepare yourself for. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind & I'd hate to think she would have to go through operations that won't improve her quality of life. Have a chat with the vet & see what they say about it.

Hope everything works out for you & the new pup.

    Hi OP,
Sorry to hear about your troubles.
I'm wondering did the breeder know the puppy was sick before you bought her?
Did the breeder seem reputable? Had the puppies got the all clear from the vet when they got their vaccinations? (I assume she has had her first jabs).

    Aw the poor little critter...
OP, how did the other pups in the litter look to you? And the mother?
Have a look at the vaccination chart the breeder gave you for the signature/stamp of the vet that did the jabs and contact him for his opinion on diagnosis- afterall he would've been the first vet to give the pups a once over.

I really hope I'm wrong, but when I read the first few lines of your post puppy farmer alarm bells went off in my head.

yes....get back on to the breeder! any good breeder should take the pup back straight away!!!
i also agree if the pup has so many issues at such a young age......is it fair to the little mite to put her through what sounds like a lot of surgery!
your heart must be broken, its such a sad thing after your excitment of bringing your pup home.:(
can i ask how you found your breeder etc?
there are so many pup farmers around its like a minefield.
everything crossed for your bundle of fluff xx

IF THE BREEDER TURNS THEIR BACK ON YOU. NAME AND SHAME THE BREEDER AND SAVE SOMEONE ELSE FROM THE SAME EXPERIENCE. BY NAMING AND SHAMING YOU WILL HELP DRY UP THE INNOCENT PEOPLE HUD WINKED BY THESE PUPPY FARMERS:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Any update OP? It's horrible but it sounds like the kindest thing here would be to put the poor thing to sleep and end her suffering.

I hope you at least get your money back from the breeder. It's not about the money but they could have known she was sick when they sold her to you.

    hi new pup

Really sorry to hear that your new puppy is sick. I have to say i agree with socket, alarm bells, puppy farmer.

I just came across a website in uk about puppy farming / dealers and there's a naming and shaming site on it. a lot of the pups are coming from ireland and are plagued with sickness and poor health.

You should call the people you bought her off, they may be reputable and unaware of it. Just see what their response is.

Is there anyone that knows, do sick pups come under trading standards law ?

I agree that i don't think it may be fair to the pup for her to endure so much pain at a young age. But you cannot euthanise her until you where you stand legally. I hope that doesn't come across as callous sounding.

Which county did you buy her in and where did you see ad?

    Good luck.
