Hi, im trying to get wireless internet access to a room in the garden beside a house. Its about 20m straight line. Theres a normal dsl modem inside the house. Ive tried using the mains networking devices but theres a seperate fuseboard so it doesnt really work.
Whats the best way of getting wireless out there? Can i get a sender and receiver sort of thing?

If the "separate fuseboard" is in your house , put a socket on it and plug your mains networking device in there. Good idea to be off the same meter though

Do you have any wireless in the house at the moment ? 20m should not be a big issue. If the signal does not make it out there you can get woreless repeaters and put it at the back of the house facing the garden room...

Is their a wireless setup in the house already? If so, does the signal cover the garden at all?
Is it a case that the signal just reaches the wall inside the house just before the garden? If this was the case, yea could just install a wireless router running WRT in "Access Point + WDS" mode. It would connect to the already existing WiFi signal in the house and extend it. Yea might need all of the wireless routers running WRT to do this, but its easy to setup

Hi there is no existing wireless network in the house. The router has a 4port ethernet switch only.

If you really don't want to run a cable inside a little duct or can't because it will mean cutting tarmac etc have a look at this thread :

EXCEPT , there are smaller/cheaper units by the same manufacturer than he used.

Note : have no connection to the seller or manufacturer , but i and two more lads in the thread have used them . They seem to behave.
