DIY downgrade ?

OK up until Last Saturday my AEG's have never been used
to skirmish and so have sat in a corner unused mostly
    since I bought them.

I finally got round to borrowing a chrono and testing them,
I lost the bit of paper with all the results but I got some hot readings.
My AK47 came in at 335-345,
The M4's gave mixed readings with 2 different chronos.
tested fine over and over again on my chrono but went
335 on a Madbull chrono a day or two after testing at home.
a whole 7fps over the limit which
sucks big time. Nothing changed on the AEG so I can only
assume there is variances between the chrono's one
being a real steel chrono and the other being a specific airsoft chrono.

My JLS scar came in at 350fps with a .2g BB.

There is no way I want to goto the hassle of getting
packing material and posting it up to a shop to get downgraded. I'd like to be able to remedy the issue myself.

I've never stripped an AEG in my life so this JLS has become the sacrificial lamb. I am praying I can put it back
    together again.

Someone mentioned rather than opening the mech box
that you could drill a tiny hole in the Nozzle so some of the
air will escape and reduce the power of the AEG.

I have a small pin vice still that can make extra small holes, I'm just a little unsure where to drill.

The nozzle itself compresses as seen in the 3rd photo,
but I dont know if this compresses when fireing.

I need to know if it is OK to drill a small hole in the side
    of the nozzle while uncompressed?

Yeah, a hole in the nozzle will reduce fps. Cant say more, keyboard absolutely fecked. Someone elaborate please.

I have a gun that was downgraded by drilling the nozzle, I cronoed the gun when it arrived and it was around 320, I used it for a full day game and it was fine. when I went to use it again the fps had jumped to 340 what happened was the nozzle rotated in its seating and the fps went up. I have of course downgrade it with a new spring and nozzle, got a nice ROF increase aswell.
You could glue the nozzle so it wont rotate I dont know what effect gluing it would have. Just something for you to think about

Couldn't you also leave the aeg with the spring compressed for a while to weaken the spring? Might be easier but then i don't know i've no experience with it

    Hi Bullets,

If you've gone to the bother of getting the gearbox out there's no point messing around with drilling nozzles and other such stuff that might not actually work.

As you said let this SCAR be your tester gun open and rebuild the gearbox a few times as practice

Here's a link to a mechbox video that'll show you how to do a spring upgrade/downgrade

    http://www.mechbox.com/mechbox/v2-mechbox-spring-upgrade.html

It's defo worth your while learning as it'll allow you to repair any of your other devices that may be faulty

An MS90 spring is only a few quid and should set you on your way

Don't do zeros advice, it is not permanent, sorry man, it isn't with many springs.

If you have a snips, ye can take off a few loops of the spring til its below the limit. approx 1cm will drop 30 or so fps on a full length spring.

cheers for the advice guys, Yeah gonna take a crack off
the gearbox in the morning (Im off work so have some time)

Need to get myself a needle nose pliers for those hard to
    reach places.

Might try the snipping of the spring.
Still trying to get over that something as simple as a
spring can be nearly 14 Euros. I would have thought at
most they would be a few cents and not even go over the
Euro mark! Crazy world were living in.

A world where you've attended a skirmish and are now opening up gearboxes! Where did this new found boldness come from!

    :D
Might as well spray the body of it and look for some Krylon
while I'm at it, considering the finish on the JLS is horrific.

    OK now I'm in trouble,

I opened the gearbox, tried to cut a 15mm off the back of the spring.
My Snips broke!!! the jaws of it actually snapped in two....leaving barely
a mark on the spring !!

When putting the gearbox back together I followed the guide
everything looked like it was in place OK, The gear that goes
under the tappet plate area was at the 1'Oclock position, when turning
the gears by hand while the box open it looked like all the actions
were working and teeth were lined up with the piston teeth etc.

I could not get the trigger spring back in, as the trigger kept flying out.
I decided to leave it out altogether as there is a spring on the contact.

Anyway when I put back in the motor and tried it the gear box jammed, then
fired one shot, then jammed with the spring compressed.

Maybe its the trigger spring that caused the issue.

Its rare to get the first reassembly perfect, watch the mechbox video on type 2 and have another crack at it :)
