Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Nikon D200 seems out of focus on one side

Hi. When I take photos with my D200, it seems that the left hand side of the image is slightly out of focus. At first I thought my lens was damaged, but then started to wonder if the mirror behind the lens might be off.

I got the D200 about 1.5 years ago or perhaps a bit more, but never found it as sharp as the D70 it replaced. And consequently haven't used it as much for this and a few other reasons. Anyhow, I would like to get the issue resolved, can anyone suggest what the problem might be?

Was thinking of dropping it into the camera store in Blanchardtown Shopping Centre, but is this the best option. I'll try and upload a few pics later.

    Thanks for any advice

+1 to posting a sample or two.

The "mirror behind the lens" is the reflex mirror & if it were not aligned correctly it would only affect what you see in the viewfinder.

Have you tried using different lenses to see if definitely is the Body?

Have you inspected the sensor on the D200 in case there is something causing fogging?

Have you locked the focus point to one side of the sensor?

Is it out of focus when you look through the view finder or when you look at the actual photo you have taken?

As already stated- the mirror will only affect what you see through the camera- you could colour it in with a marker and it wouldn't affect your photographs one bit! So if it is a mirror problem it's nothing to worry about!

If it is out of 'focus' when you look at the prints then its probably a lens problem (if it was totally out of focus and not just to one side then it could be lens or camera- but in this case it's just the lens). Perhaps one of the elements on your lens has become misaligned?

However if it's 'soft' or slightly 'foggy' (which is different to being out of focus) it could be a sensor problem.

If you drop it into the Camera Centre in the Blanchardstown s/c they can test a few lenses on it and find the problem. They'll have to send it to Nikon to fix it though. If you bought it there bring both your original receipt and the Nikon warranty card you got in the box (Nikon require both of these to repair under warranty), otherwise it usually costs between €80-€150 depending on the problem.

Also if you bring in actual prints that clearly show what the problem is, it will speed things along greatly.

    G'luck
