starter recipes

Anyone have a recipe for garlic mushrooms...like what you get in restaurants but not deep-fried if possible!!!

Or any other nice simple starter recipe that could be used for a dinner party .....e.g. some sort of tart with mozzarella and tomato, something with smoked salmon...maybe!!!!
Have 2 dinner parties coming up so help would be appreciated.
