Adding router as access point

Ok, so here goes, I've got a cable broadband into the house downstairs, into the modem which is connected into a wireless router. I have a spare router which i would like to use as an access point so i can use my xbox upstairs.

I've been searching the net but am getting more confused i think! Should i use the router as an access point or set up wireless bridging?

Here's the setup at the moment:
Cable modem===Wireless Router

---

Laptops


New Setup if possible:
Cable modem===Wireless Router

---

Laptops And Access point===Xbox360

Wired is === Wireless is ----

Cable modem: Ntl 250
Wireless router:Speedtouch 716wl
Router to use as access point: Belkin Wireless G F5D7230-4

Hope someone can give me a few pointers as I am not getting anywhere with it myself.

if you are planning on running the xbox off the second Access point then you'll need to configure it to Client Bridge mode.
This means it will work as a Wireless card for any devices that are plugged into it.

If you want to use both Wireless and wired clients from it but still being connected to your primary access point then you will need to configure it to work as a Repeater bridge.


Now all of the above depends on the type of routers you have. As not all routers/AP's are capable of these functions.

Thanks for the replies. Well thats a bit dissapointing, i guess i'll just have to fork out a few quid on one of them wireless dongles for the xbox.

Just throw WRT on the Belkin and connect it up to your existing wireless network by putting it into "Wireless Ethernet Bridge" mode, easy really
