Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Back to the photos...

Did anybody get some good shots of Irish life on Bloomsday?

Coming back from a lecture by P.J. Lynch on the Harry Clarke exhibition in the National Gallery, I found some lively people on the street.

I have to admire those of you who go out with a nifty to shoot the streets. More often you'll find me hiding behind my 70-300. I suppose it can be the easy option.

This is one I shot back in April.

well an artists has already worked for weeks/months on the sculpture, all you have to do is point your camera and click. you dont have to wait for a facial expression or the subject to get into the right position. its already done for you. nobody ever credits the sculpture artist but they would credit a posed model. its just a pet peeve of mine

I am aware of this and now could do with some help, please. I have some "Walking Melbourne" books and have searched the Internet but can find no reference to the sculptor who made this street art.

Since someone here might even be in Australia at the moment, I would be grateful if they asked friends if they know.

I was at it on Thu, Fri, Sat and Sun. Much better than the Street performance festival for entertainment and involvement. Well done to organisers.
    Picking up developed rolls tomorrow.

    Street shots are my favourite, but I find the nerve can come and go. Here's few of mine;

    DA4DF7404F4A4F5A9DF3B9607D22C17A-800.jpg

Was using a point and shoot and was a bit concerned about taking the guard, but reckoned if challenged I could say I was taking GPO clock. Anyway he looked very young.

    0D0C822D4F294641AA33ED8C03BC0D4F-800.jpg

This was with SLR and zoom lens (18-270), and was easier.

Again using Ricoh compact but just had to get it. You can't see the lecherous look on his face but it can be imagined.

Had a run in recently taking some shots. Saw this interesting looking drunk/homeless dude on North Kings Street. Snapped a couple from across the street and then as I crossed I took a few more from the hip. He noticed the sound and got up and came after me. I didn't run but apologised and said I would delete them. As I was deleting them he opend his coat and grabbed a hold of a large glass bottle, in such a fashion that he could swing it at me. Scared the **** out of me but I remained calm in case he would make a move. I took the card out straight away so I can use rescue pro to recover the images soon as I find my serial number.

Oatcakes. The best hangover cure. Being sold from a wimdow in a gaff near you. That is if you're near that part of Stoke.

It will make no difference to him whether or not I leave them deleted. They won't be displayed anywhere.

    Funny that Simplicius as I've come into ownership of a early '80's Minolta SG-2 (also SG-9) and three lovely primes; a 24mm (2.8) a 50mm (1.7) and a 135mm (a delicious 2.8). Beautiful cameras.
Going to get results tomorrow, very excited. Like a new man without variable focus. Never again.

wow great find !!! Rokkor are the most under-rated lens in the business. I own an autocord TLR with mint glass and the sharpness is amazing so is this old Hi-Matic for all its neglect still good... just need to find a hood and a few filters to bang up the contrast and howdy - doody ...

getting back on topic: In street photography I find using film cameras either disarms people when questioned or else they think you are wierder than them and they better pose or else you might get mad and go psycho. I suspect if i had some uber sexy rapidly depreciating DSLR, I'd not get the same amount of opportunities. (I am discounting the fact I am a 6'6'' with a look that would not be amiss on a wanted poster as most modern people are too head the ball to care, especially in my stomping ground D1 and environs)

Anyone else believe folk now view film as less threatening.?

I love this idea! Wish I had the stones to take more street shots, people are so interesting when they don't know you're watching.

Here's one I took in Berlin, he was selling hats at Checkpoint Charlie.

Cracking capture of the lesser spotted Comb-over couple in the third pic fx. They're usually a loner type species and only come together for mating purposes once every 4 years (funerals and weddings the exception). Did you set up a 'hide' on a dual-carriageway? It's a hot spot as they move between the travel lodge and the Esso garage during this all too brief romantic moment. Or is it a tricky double exposure to fool the people in National Geographic?

It's from a small festival in Mayo, called the Urlaur Pattern. Brings all the interesting locals out. It's been going on for a few hundred years. If you look closely you can tell them apart by their choice of ties.

Absolutely. I've gotten away with far more with medium format cameras - SLR and TLR, than I'd ever get away with with my 5D's. People think it's that bit more curious, or don't see you as a threat/media with them.

I ended up in the pits of that Japfest last Sunday with my lovely Flexaret TLR, and was able to get drivers and people working on cars to work away while I took a snap or two. I think the people with DSLR's had a much harder time getting casual snaps. The TLR got me plenty of attention too :D

Even today, I was out with my SX-70, and ended up at Buckingham Palace. The lovely Police lady there talked to me for a second, and let me in 'ever-so-slightly' past the barrier to get the (unobstructed) snap I wanted, while telling all the chaps with their digital point and shoots/DSLR's to head off.

I was pretty shocked when she let me tbh.

Anyways, keeping to the topic at hand, here's two streets in Brixton. Heavily expired Polaroid 600 film, SX-70.

There are some superb shots here, makes me want to get out there again. I've never taken people on the street shots that please me. I'm always concerned about unwitting (and witting) subjects' permissions. I'm very interested in the comments here.

I woke up at 4am last week, thought sod it, got the camera, and went down temple bar. I was a wee too tired, it didn't really work, apart from this shot:
