    Hey Everyone :D

I have applied to NUI Maynooth as a mature student to do Psychology (MH106) and Arts (MH101).I have done the entry exam. Unfortunately I got turned down for the Psychology course but I have been accepted for an interview for the Arts. I only applied to the Arts because I was advised to do so by a guidence cllr I went to see because if I was turned down for Psychology I could use the Arts as another way into Psychology. My problem is I can't remember how the Arts course is going to do that:o
I was wondering can anyone shed any light on this subject for me.. Any help would be brilliant.. My interview in Monday  Thanks :)

Basically you take Psychology as one of your arts subjects - but you need to do really, really well in your first year exams to proceed to doing just Psychology in your next 2 years!

    See website:
"Single Honours: Psychology is studied with two other subjects in first year. At the end of 1st year, 30 students proceed into second year on the basis of first year results in Psychology. In second and third year students take Psychology as a single subject. Normally, students who do not reach the standard required for admission to Second Arts Psychology in the Summer examination of their first year of registration, must on passing their First Arts examination proceed into Second Year with their two remaining Arts subjects from First Year. Students in First Arts are not permitted to repeat first year Psychology to compete for a place in second year."

Thats exactly what I needed. Thanks a million Amtaxi. :D

Also, I have looked on the internet to try and find out what the next step would be after I finish the Arts Degree to becoming a Clinical Psychologist, but I can't find anything . Would anyone know or know or know of a website that would be able to help.. Thank you :)

Basically if you do well enough in year 1 arts you can transfer to Psychology and you will then finish up with your basic degree in psychology and not an arts degree - then you can do a post grad in clinical. Think trinity & UCD do check their web site - hope this helps

    Hi Op,

    Have a look here http://www.psihq.ie/training_careerGuide.asp.
It gives lots of info on training as a psychologist in Ireland as well as links to relevant post-grads in the different specialisms.

    Good luck.
