Some of their electric tools are good but battery drills are crap in my view

Guys I bought Welding Rods in Lidl (2.5mm) - They are brilliant.
I did my best welding with them. I went back the following day and bought some more.

For that price - I would chance the welder also. I am looking at the catalogue here and the max rods it takes is 2.5. That is plenty around the farm. :o

No guarantee that the 500e one is the best thing ever ,i'd reckon you're getting into that dodgy middle ground where you'd want to choose carefully.
Ask someone who does it for a living what they'd use in your situation.

The new one in aldi should do up to 3mm with ease. with a little care you'd manage 5mm work but its really beyond what it's meant for.

for general fabrication, gates, trailer repairs etc it's hard to beat something like this.

simple reliable robust machine that will do pretty much anything you'd need on a farm. you'll see the same machine wearing various colours and brands in co-op shops and motor factors around the country.

the spaldings one is really only worth the extra if you plan on doing tig work, or you really really need the portability. and for tig work it's not gonna be that great as it doesnt have HF start.
