Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How to make friends and influence people eh?

Yes indeed that is me in the Amateur Photographer article and from the thread above copied from the RPS forums. That email at the top of the post came to me direct from Chris Rowlin, rights manager at the NTPL.

Along with others such as Tony Sleep at Copyright Action, I have been pursuing a ruthless online campaign against the NT policy in an effort to improve and clarify photographers rights on this matter.

It appears that the NT are finally starting to listen to the overwhelming numbers of photographers that are concerned by these issues. So far,

    - Improved T+Cs on competitions
    - Clarification that landscape photography on public access lands is unrestricted (commercial or otherwise).
    - Confirmation that Flickr posting, public exhibition and non-commercial publishing of images is allowed

    and most importantly

    - Indications that the policy is going to be rewritten

    Thank you for the update.

I blogged about this today, using hyperbole to lighten the atmosphere:

    http://shortsights.blogspot.com/2009/05/im-great-flickr-fan.html#links

I have taken to holidaying in England with pleasure and have an ongoing invitation to Edinburgh. It is important, when travelling, not to cause offense and run into difficulties, so I took the NT policies seriously.

Also, just in passing I tried to join the NPS forum today, as there are so many helpful and knowledgeable photographers there. An e-mail, by return, informed me that I did not reach the qualifications for membership of the Forum. Perhaps one has to join the NPS?

In any case, all's well that end's well.
I shall wait until the NT policy is clearly set out in writing before engaging with any of their activities again.

    NPS?

Do you mean RPS? It is a public forum, although I know that some people were having to wait some time to have their accounts activated. I suspect you will have access shortly.

Also, very good Blog article. Sometimes these issues are best highlighted through humour.

Sorry, everything here is National, not Royal...

I'll probably get round to e-mailing Tony and see what the procedure is.

This thread has been a great education, with so many links to so many new sites.

It seems that things have calmed down and that sharing photos is OK.

Also I came across a new site to upload photos which fitted into the "Not Quite the National Trust" category, but can't seem to find it again.

(Some rummaging and here it is...

Here's a useufl blog from days before this drama took off:

I've decided to upload photos directly here for the next few weeks.

It's nice to have a relaxing venue for sharing.
