Ive done alot of research, went through alot of threads and read alot of mixed opinions on what is the best computer science/applications course, I was sure DCU was gonna be number one on me CAO but a good percentage of people say DCU has a pretty dull social life, compared to other places.

I was basing my choice on the best course and i still am, but if I didnt like DCU I would be much happier in DIT or even UCD, maybe not maynooth, I hear the course aint just that good but the crack is deadly... So i have went from sure to confused, I want to see your vews and opinions, have an argument so I can make up my mind.tongue.gif

    Cheersbiggrin.gif

I probaly shouldn't be thinking about this too much before the leaving, I have a ****load of work to do... might not get anywhere tongue.giftongue.giftongue.gif

Getting a range of opinions so im posting this in the DCU nd UCD forums aswell.

EDIT: I do care about the course, but lets just discuss the social life and the crack for now.tongue.gif

So you're basing your college choice entirely based on the social life of the college rather than the academic merits of the course? Good luck in your future career.

UCD has a pretty good social life, all colleges do but at the end its what you put into it is what you get out. We probably have more themed nights out if that's what you're after but there's usually something going on in DCU.

Read the edit brimmey, and @ mikey, it will take me a while to figure if that helps make up my mind...

Well when you post the edit after my reply and try to make it look like I didn't see it it really seems like you're a complete dosser/tool. I don't mean to go with personal abuse or anything but it really doesn't seem like you're interested in the course or anything. If you want a party college you'll get whatever you put into the course out of it. All colleges have something going on every night. Obviously someone in UCD will tell you the social life is good while someone in DCU will tell you the same because that's all they know.

Give the guy a break! He's going to college for the first time - of course he cares about the social life. I'd be worried if he didn't care about it.

He even said himself "I was basing my choice on the best course and i still am".

I've been in UCD and DIT. The social life in both revolves alot around 2 euro drink nights in Bondi/21 or whereever is offering cheap drink. UCD's societies are far, far more active in my experience though which gives it a huge edge.

I didnt mean to try and make it look as if u didnt see it, i can see how you thought that but i only meant to look at the edit i just made to give u a clear understanding what i want answered, can u think things through before u go calling me a tool, and if you did read the post properly u would see that i am interested in the course, hell i have been interested in computers my whole life.

UCD's social life is nothing like it was five years ago. The new regulations have destroyed the normal social scene as well as the unruly element of it. TCD probably has the best on-campus social scene, but to be honest you'll be doing much of your socialising in town if you come to UCD. Anyway, pick your course based on the course - you'll find plenty of people to go socialising with no matter where you go.

DIT, social scene is very poor, too fragmented. I find from mt friends experiences that people who go to UCD/TCD/DCU leave college with a far bigger group of friends than the likes of DIT...it may have something to do with the college bar, on campus accomodation...etc. etc

Depends on the course and the college IMO - some of the courses like Arts have a **** social life due to the size of the classes and the fact you don't get to make friends that easily. I just finished B&L in UCD and I pretty much know everyone in my year - there is only about 140 in the year, the classes are a lot smaller so you get to chat to people easier and we probably have about 5-6 class parties/trips every year.

My point is: it'll depend on the course you do just as much as it depends on the college you go to

You can be sure though that UCD is heading for a prohibitionist stance on anything involving alcohol.

but i have to say mate, choose which place has the better reputation. i think ucd has a very good computer course. even tho it has a high drop out rate above any other courses, i think most of those r in dcu. ucd has a great social scene. even drinkin in the bars on campus is great craic. and partying in da apartments is always a gud laugh!
