Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hello all,

Wondering if anyone can help me here.

I was looking for a new large apenture, zoom lens and was looking at the Sigma 17-70mm f2.8. However after reading that it performs at 2.8 only at the 17mm end, I invesitgated the sigma 18-50mm f2.8. Then, after reading this, I realised the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 is the job for me.

However, I cannot seem to find any sites/info that tells me if it performs at 2.8 throughout its range. Does anyone know offhand?

Hmm... I've a D80 and looking at that link having followed it onto other links I'm a bit more confused now. Seems like there's lots of AF problems with it on the d70/80/90.
I'd be using it for gig potography as much as landscapes, so I'd need it to AF, really.

And this thread is reporting that there are some 'bad batches' of this lens. Which would make me skeptical about buying it on eBay...

Yeah, I'd want to handle and buy it from a brick and mortar shop myself. I just randomly encountered this while browsing sites. I don't know anything about the lens (and since I use a D40 it doesn't interest me all that much ). Since it has no AF on a D40 body...so techincally guaranteed no AF problems on a D40

I'm very happy with mine (although it's a canon fit - so obviously better ) I don't notice any difference in quality between it and my 50mm prime.

As for places to find one, I bought mine for about 300ish used in Berminghams in Dublin. It's the kind of lens that should be easy to find 2nd hand as it won't work on full frame cameras so when people trade up they have to sell it.

As for the focusing, it does hunt a bit if you point it at blue sky but that's rarely an issue for me as I wouldn't ususally do so.
