There are also very few permanent speed camera locations so paying for that as an extra is pretty pointless.

Either Garmin or Tomtom, won't make a whole lot of difference. Once will have the latest maps at one point, then six months later the other one will, and roads don't change that often. Get whichever unit you prefer the useage of.

Used TomTom for a few years, 'upgraded' to a new Garmin recently. Big mistake. The Garmin interface is quite reliant on postcodes which we don't have so entering addresses is a pain > Country> City> street and number... all via an A-Z (not QWERTY) touch screen.

    Far preferred the TomTom interface.

Mapping was much of a muchness between both.

Suggest you test both to see which suits you though.

Tomtom interface is very good. Maps in urban areas pretty much the same. In rural areas Tomtom (Teleatlas) maps are completely useless - no Townlands. If you need to find places in rural areas get something with navteq maps, definitely avoid Teleatlas

Depends on the model you're using. On my wifes you can select if you want a QWERTY touchscreen keyboard or an A-Z one so that's not an issue.
