New guitar strings

Hey all, any advice on the best way to 'lock' new guitar strings so they dont slip? Thanks for the help! :)

well i tune it up to standard, and then give them a little pull, just enough not to break them, do it about twice more and their pretty good after that, but they will inevitably still slip for an hour or two after

Sorry, i meant while re-stringing a guitar, how do you lock the string around itself before you start winding it onto the post?
