phone socket

    anyone know how to set up phone socket
    there is 6 different wires coming out of the cable itself orange, orange and white,green ,green and white,blue,and blue and white...these do not match the wires on the socket i was given which are red bleck yellow and green...
    any help would be great

    Its pretty much trial and error. Hook a phone up to the socket, lift the receiver off the hook and then touch each pair of wires from the cable in the wall to the black and red wires from the socket. When you hear a dial tone, you've got the right ones.

    Is this an extension you are adding, or are you trying to fit a master socket? If it's the master socket, then get eircom to do it, this is why you pay line rental.

    If doing an extension, I'm pretty sure it's the orange/white and white/orange pair they use.

    no its the master socket ive been told it will take 10 days for eircom engineer to come and sky wont put in tv till we have it will try orange couple so
