Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

but the doctors always told me it was normal and prescribed me Dakacort.

i had it for the past number of years but anyway looks like the Doc was right!

Apparently its common in a lot of males(50-90%)

Anyways here's the info for anyone that may think they have contracted a infection(Obviously Doctors conformation is essential, Do Not Take my word for it.

all the more reson not to **** yourself when you notice a rash or something weird going on downstairs. Get yourself off to the GP and have it looked at!

i had a cyst before and i genuinely taught it was all over lol

    didnt know what it was

how long where you waiting to get the cyst diagnosed. a friend of mine had a lump on his testicle and had to wait six months to get a specialist to properly diagnose it. luckily for him it was a cyst and not something more serious or he'd be dead now. six months?? mens health in ireland is a shambles no wonder we live shorter lives than women.

i'd beg to differ there Suey71.

any referral letters that used to come to our clinic, were all reviewed by a consultant within a day or so of arrival. then prioritised in order of severity. Unknown testicle lumps and such would generally have been seen within 3 weeks. Any suspicion of prostate cancer would be seen within 4 weeks. I use these conditions as they are the common "mens health" type conditions. Bear in mind also that we would have been one fo the busiest units in the country and indeed stats that I saw had us down as one of the busiest in the UK and Ireland

it wasnt on my testicle, twas on the shaft of my flute lol. so doc was able to tell me what it was straight away. tablets and 5 days later right as rain!

I submitted an earlier thread about a pain in my backside, right where the prostate is. I went to my Doctor, told him my symptoms. he wanted to give me an examination then and there but i felt uncomfortable with him doing it and asked to be referred to a specialist. I was waiting 4 months for a colonoscopy, and not even sure if this is the correct procedure for such symptoms. on a more recent occasion, i had a large lump on my upper eyelid and again went to my doctor. he referred me to a specialist based in a clinic near portabello bridge (no names mentioned). I was waiting over 4 months again for him to see me. i think 4 months is a little to long to wait, no matter how small the problem, but when you have a pain in your prostate 4 months can be the diference between life and death.

A few years ago i had a rash on my penis. i went to my then doctor and she told me that i had Herpes, I said that cant be right as i'v only been with one partner and she said that i must have got it off my wife. My wife was pregnant with our second child at the time so we both went to get tested in st James' std clinic and they told us that the only thing that i had was a simple rash and the Doc. gave me a mild cream and to just leave my foreskin back for a while. but from the time that i was told that I had Herpes to when we got tested I took the anti-biotics that i was prescribed. and i won't tell you what the side effects were. plus the fact that this Doctor was tactless enough to suggest that i contacted an std of my wife.My God luckily i trusted her. I know some Doctors are great but so far in my life I haven't found one that was. sorry about the rant.

this isn't really the place to be getting into it Suey, but tbh with a vague symptom like a pain, and not having an DRE done before-hand your going to be deemed a low risk by any surgeon. Pain like that could be any number of things, and depending on what the cause is, you could end up actually being treated by any number (in my head right now I'm thinking of about 5) different specialists.

I'd agree that waiting for 4 months though is a tad excessive, but thats the system we got mate. If your not in immediate danger you slip down the list. Just thank God that its not a dermatologist your waiting for, wait times for those guys can be up to 2 years!

as for your other post.....well not aiming this at you at all, but the amount of patients I've dealt with over the years that have lied about things ain't funny. SO most medical professionals of any hue are rightly skeptical about what they are told, until things are proven without a doubt

hold up there ChillyWilly, unless your moonlighting here and your real name is Doctor ChillyWilly, then you don't know for sure that you have the same thing at all.

In fairness though, what this thread points out is that, more often than not, all the worrying can be for nothing and your so much better off heading down to the GP and getting a quick check. I know in my own case I'm far far to worried about my bollock health not to!

you didnt have to wait four months, as you stated yourself, your GP, a qualified professional, could have examined you there and then, but for whatever reason you chose not to accept this.

Lol, I have them, always thought they were hair follicles

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,698 ✭✭✭InFront

As common as it may be, I am surprised that the top estimate that article states puts Fordyce's as high as 90%? That kind of estimate puts those who do not have this condition the distinct minority?

That's one minority group I never really considered before...

    Same here.

I never worried about them, had them for as long as I could remember so I knew they weren't an issue, at least thats the way my mind worked.

After reading the wiki article, Im curious to know if anyone here has tried to have them treated?

Lots of worrying could be avoided by going to GP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 257 ✭✭Fairdues

Even if sent for further investigation, that is usually a precaution.

Mystik, or tallaght, if one of you sees this. If you get a chance, could you outline exactly what is involved in an std check - kind demystify the whole thing? eg

Can any doctor do it? Would I need a referral? What kind of questions, what'll happen etc. If you get a chance of course, but I think it'd be useful.

    just saw this now.

i'm a psychiatrist so its been a while since i was involved in sti checks, but this is what i can remember:

your gp can do most of the things required (probably all actually, but soem people prefer to go to a clinic where they arent known)

questions will be regarding your sexual history, no of partners, if youve had unprotected sex, anal sex.

you'll be asked regarding any symptoms, such as pain or discharge

examination will include inspection of your bits (incl anal area) for any tears/warts/herpes etc

doc will retract the foreskin to inspect the head of teh penis

they'll probably take a swab from just inside teh jap's eye - will only take 2 seconds to take and might be uncomfortable but not sore

thats about it, i think, unless tallaght or anyone else can think of anything else.

hope this helps, any other questions, fire away!

not sure how I missed this teebs. Sorry

    Sam has it all above.

The important thing to remember is to be totally honest, so if you have slept with 2 people or 102 tell the truth. If you tried something ONCE with a lad in college,"just to see" or "cos I was drunk" then thats important too.

The physical exam is a bit morto, but not sore. Feels a bit weird, with the swab, but it's over before you realise it. For the peace of mind and the potential benefits, it's more than worth it.
