Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey guys

I'm thinking to get a pano head and would like to know if anyone have any experience with those?

I would like to take pictures in vertical 360 basically from sky to sky would that be quite easy and precise to do with a pano head?

Any special brand or model i should look into?

    Cheers

You want to shoot from sky to sky - wonder what that looks like - got an example pic?

I guess it's the same as using a horizontal pan head but mounted on tripod in portrait...

Anyway as stcstc mentioned the nodal ninja looks good http://www.nodalninja.com/ - it's reviewed in this months Digital Photographer mag (I think that's the mag)

I spotted this on google ads: http://gregwired.com/pano/Pano.htm
About €80 delivered to Ireland - looks like it would work well.

And if you were brave you could try making one.
3rd link below looks the easiest - I started to work on it but was having trouble getting the right screws (thread issues)
I'll try again some time.. I think it would give good results.

    Hard: http://www.chem.uky.edu/xray/people/Parkin/panohead/panohead.html
    medium: http://www.diyphotography.net/diy_the_panorama_head_el_cheapo
    Easy and acheivable: http://www.worth1000.com/tutorial.asp?sid=161123&print=1

excuse my ignorance.. but is that not something that your average tripod could achieve?

Re Howitzer's post - where do you get nuts & bolts with a suitable thread for affixing to camera tripod sockets? I've seen them spec'ed as 1/4 inch, 20 threads per inch, but have never seen this spec on the shelves of our (largely metric) DIY stores.

With a couple of these, a diy pano head would be relatively easy.

It's the 20 threads per inch thing that scuppered me on this project.
Also the need for some 'insert nuts' - nuts that will accept the same thread and can be bashed into a bit of wood.

You can order nuts n bolts etc online.. so a few quid might get the project going again ;-)

well you have to be carefull, you need to rotate around the nodal point of the lens and a normal tripod head wont generally do this
