Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I always wondered what level of water a cam and lens can take? are they ok in the rain? i ask because i always assumed that rain was a no go but at the irish open at the weekend one of the togs had his camera and lens out in the crazy rain and then when he was switching cam he simply just put it down in the wet grass? . . . .or is he just nuts?

Some cameras are weatherproof, as well as some lenses. And in some cases, photographers don't use their hardware, but assigned one.
Maybe he was just nuts ;-)

Top end pro SLRs/Lenses are sealed to a degree .... rain is ok...but keeping it out in heavy rain will only lead to problems.

suppose best way to say it is that they are splashproof !!! :P

Is it unusual to have professional cameras which can be taken into the water?

The top end Olympus bodies and some of the lenses are weather sealed, AFAIK.

The E-3, E-1 and all the high grade and super high grade lenses are fully weather sealed.

People get too worried about how wet their cameras get - As long as you've a bit of common sense and it's not salt water, you're grand! :)

Even then, I shot my main shots from my current exhibition in the sea with waves crashing fairly solidly enough against me!

Insurance helps with the aul confidance though ;)

This is a question I have always wondered about!

I think a bit of rain should be ok, but try avoid it all the same

This is one I have wondered about too! I try and keep it dry and tend to put it away if it rains.
