    Lads,

Have my eye on a 2004-2005 XJ. Spotted a few on CZ but the dealers are still looking for 20k+ for them for about 35k miles.

Met a guy in a bodyshop the other day who reckons it's worth no more than 16 grand....(cash deal)

    Any thoughts?

And, yes, I know I'll be married to it but always fancied a cruiser for mid teens money...!!

    cheers,

    A

I reckon you'd get that one for €22,000, maybe a little less with a cash deal.

As for 16k? There's a reason that that guy works in the bodyshop and not the showroom then, eh?

Thanks. Interesting that there was one on CZ three weeks ago and they were asking E19.5k for it. Only problem was it was a C reg..mileage was a bit higher too at around 50k....

Whilst you might get it for about 22k are you not still paying over the odds for it?

BTW, is this not more or less the same car and the Cork dealer is looking for €34.5k for it?

goes to show the fantasy land the dealers are still living in....!!

These have also caught my eye recently, I lot of comfy cruiser for the cash. Just can't get on with dashboard though, looks like its lifted from an X-Type, not special enough.

Just so you know OP the lads in Spirit are very pleasant to deal with.

    Thanks.

I've found them a little bit complacent. And even in this market they are still way off the mark with their cash price/straight deal prices....

Dealers still expect the punter to take a big chunk of their losses...mark to market is a term that they still don't understand...no surprise there is massive increases in the UK/NI imports...

    ....

The xj6 is a fantastic car completly overlooked by most people. I have never owned the v8 model and I find after xj8 model circa 2000 they don't stand out so much.

The x300 xj6 offers huge value for money in 3.2 guise it is powerfull enough but a 4 litre sovereign is far better. These are big cars and won't win many traffic light grand prix, but between 30 and 70 these cars will just pull and pull. you can be dawdling along the motorway wondering why everyone is going so slowly, Looking at the speedo the car relaxing yawning and doing 110 mph !

The v8 cars are dogged by so many problems, whereas the previous cars are not so complicated. I have a 1996 xj6 3.2 it's a wonderfull car and so cheap I have no idea how anyone can afford to drive a new Mondeo every 2 years. Even with high running costs the mighty xj6 is champagne car for Fiesta money.

They do break down sometimes and you need to be handy with a spanner but if you can service your own car than the x300 will pose no major problems. If you have never driven an xj6 I advise you to try one.

    My two pennies.

    My 2 cents.

You can appeal the VRT after you pay it. All you need is written proof of the lowest priced similar specced car. Print out from CZ will do AFAIK.
