In classes such as lightweight hunter, what is the format, etiquette, do you need a helper, is there a run up, etc..
Ive looked for threads on the topic but cant find any!

Ridden hunter classes normally follow the same format which is roughly as follows:
Judge(s) watch the horses being ridden together and the walk, trot, canter and gallop. They then pull them into line in the order they initially think they'd like the horse. Each judge may ride all or a number of horses to try them out to see how they ride. After that the judge may decide to ask to see all or some of the horses being shown in hand, to have a look at their action, etc. It's often handy to have a helper for this part to help get rid of girth and saddle marks! And then based upon all of the above the judges will make their decision.
