I hope so, it is always a big step up, that said I would be confident that Wilshere will make it.

Think Arsene is being very careful with him, would expect to see a bit more of him next season.

not sure if he we will. After the messes that were Pennant and Bentley, part of Wengers plan for young stars like Ramsey these days seems to involve completely shielding them from the public eye until he's convinced they have the mental stability to handle the expectations and spotlight. I'd say we wont see that much of him next season.

Liverpool have a big mountain to climb for the second leg so. Does anyone know if they use the away goals rule?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

No away goals in yoof cup I'm afraid, that said it may be just as well!

How did Wisdom play in this match?

Heard a good bit about him when he was a kid at Bradford and there are sell on clauses and the likes in place so would be nice to know if he's filling his potential.

Didn't play great - was playing CM as opposed to CB. Just turned 16 a few weeks ago so a bit to go yet - as against that he has been named in the reserve squad already.

I'm not sure that he's 100% signed to Liverpool yet - can only sign contract at 16 and there was talk a while back of other clubs offering big wages/signing bonus.

Besides Ramsey, do Arsenal have any other players who were eligible in terms of being underage but didn't play?

As far as I can figure Liverpool had Pacheco, Saric, Bruna and Palsson who were all eligible in terms of age but have been featuring solely with the reserves instead this season.

Good save from Shea for Arsenal in a one-on-one with LDV.

    Pretty even after 10 mins.

Half chance for Arsenal from a corner and a quick break ends up with a good shot from Kacaniklic

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,492 ✭✭✭MementoMori

Still a lot of uncertainty in the centre of the Liverpool defence - not surprising really given Joe Kennedy is being released in the summer

Wiltshere hasmt been massively involved but what touches he has had have pretty much all been quality.

    Arsenal more on top now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,492 ✭✭✭MementoMori

1-0 Arsenal Sanchez runs away from Kennedy onto a simple ball over the top and a nice finish in off the post.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,492 ✭✭✭MementoMori

Buchtmann really isn't doing much in CM - his positioning is all over the place.

Ayala picking up a yellow for a clatter tackle

Arsenal were pretty dominant, had a lot of the ball and were threatening going forward. Coquelin and Wilshere have run the midfield, although I'd prefer to see the latter in a more advanced role.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,492 ✭✭✭MementoMori

1-0 HT Arsenal on top without really impressing.
The two Liverpool CBs both playing poorly and you get the feeling that Arsenal might score from every ball that goes into the box.
As against that I wouldn't bet against Liverpool scoring as Kacaniklic and Dalla Valle to a lesser extent have done ok on very limited possesion
5-1 on aggregate to Arsenal so will be interesting to see who is more up for it in the second half given the tie is effectively dead already.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,492 ✭✭✭MementoMori

Kacaniklic off and Eccelstone on at HT
    Weird one given Kaca's performance:confused:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,492 ✭✭✭MementoMori

Jeez Robinson is Delap MK 2 - long throw almost to penalty spot at only 15

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,492 ✭✭✭MementoMori

1-1 LDV good goal and nice finish

Was just a nothing ball up that he did well to win and finished well.

Liverpool doing better at the start of the second half - have a number of shots on targe alreday in addition to the goal

would be nice at this stage to win the tie - young lads could do without being humiliated again.

How long have the elctronic advertising boards been at Anfield?

I've either never noticed them before or I have blocked out any memory.:)

they werent there last time I was over. But in fairness, what with being poor, it's been a while.

Great To See The Lads Developing
Especially Wilshere. Great Win For The Arsenal :D
Anyone Know Why The Final Always Has 2 Legs?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,492 ✭✭✭MementoMori

Dean Bouzanis - Reasonable performance - left very exposed for the goals
Steven Irwin - Very solid tackler good performance
Daniel Ayala - Maybe playing alongside Kennedy is affecting him but did not impress one bit
Joe Kennedy - Being released in the summer - looks the opposite of a quality defender
Jack Robinson - Only very fair performance, monster throw on him though - think he’s still only 15
David Amoo - A lot quieter than the first leg, very quiet in the first half, improved in the second half
Chris Buchtmann - Clearly not a CM looks uncomfortable with the role especially defensively
Andre Wisdom - Looked decent overall but he looks more like a CB than a CM
Alex Kacaniklic - Good going forward and showed some nice touches, surprised he was subbed at HT
Lauri Dalla Valle - Showed impressive pace to make the one-on-one but should probably have done better with the finish, living on scraps upfront in the first half, did well for his goal,
Tom Ince - Some nice flashes of play but only in patches, improved when playing out on the left
Nathan Eccleston - looked reasonable when he came on

The two worst performers were the two CB which meant that the defence was always under pressure.
After that the problem for Liverpool was the lack of anything decent in the way of creativity in the centre of the park - the loss of Pepper here was a big blow especially given the fact that a RB was played there in the first leg and a LB/LM are playing there tonight. Might have made more sense to bring on Roberts for Buchtmann at half time.

Overall Arsenal deserved to win but I think a draw would probably have been a fair result tonight.

That Joe Kennedy appears to have been at fault to some degree for three of the goals.

Lauri Dalla Valle - another Football Manager legend, he actually looked impressive in the flesh though.

Setanta bring their own temporary electronic advertising boards for SPL games. I'm guessing they do the same at any match they have camera's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,095 ✭✭✭zing

The electonic advertising signs aren't the whole way roudn the pitch - only those areas where the cameras are most likely to pick up. So all along the centenary and about 3/4 of the kop - presumably 3/4 of Anfield Road end too (was stood in AL when I noticed that). You can kinda see that here http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/match_pix/first/2008_09/710/medium/PROP090524-04-Liverpool_Tottenham.jpg
Also they appear to take up in the region of 10 or 12" in depth in total which kinda surprised me.
