Was just about to sit on my back side tonight when I heard
some of the local kids in the estate I am living in get excited.

I thought it was their dog that usually chases my cats
so I went out my front door and to my surprise there
in front of me in an a housing estate just outside the city
stood infront of me of all things a red Hen!!!

How it got there I do not know. There are no farms anyplace close by so it was completly out of place.

2 of the local dogs made a go for it, but one was caught by
its owners and the other got confused and did not attack.

The Hen then somehow (like every other animal in the area) magically appeared in my back garden, at the exact time when all my cats were about the place and wanted to be fed, and to go out.

My cats are bird killers and have lost track of the amount of times where I've had to nip into my neigbours and remove a bird body from their garden on my own and bin it.
So a gang of my cats immediatly sorounded poor Mrs Chicken. They were stalking and about to attack when it "clucked" and scared the hell out of them.

My girlfriend rang the local animal welfare who
more or less said they could do nothing at that hour and put the hen in
a box and take it to the vet!!

Mmmm a household with 10 cats
about the place try and catch a bird keep it over night and
bring it to a vet not really a good combinations.

Roll on.....later on in the evening....Guilt starts setting in,
I chase as slow as I can the poor bird around my garden when finally I managed to catch her and ironically get her
    into a Cat Cage.

Now comes the part where Im in a bit of a pickle!!
Bird in a Cat cage, Midnight GMT time Ireland.
I've put the cage with bird into my garden shed for the night. (hopefully it did not die overnight of a heart attack)

By morning there is bound to be a cage soiled with Poo
and maybe even an egg! and I heard that Hen Poo is not
the most pleasent smelling and I defo cant open the cage to clean it as bird will escape.

What should I do next to ensure Bird safety??????
If it is brought to the Local vet what will the vet do?
will they charge me? will they take the bird from me?
will they refuse to take the bird and if so what the heck do I do then?

i can meet you half way and ask if my boss will take it, she is a vet and has a little farm where we send random chickens/hens/geese whatever!

I'm in dublin btw or you could ask a local petting farm or something!

I dont have transport apart from my own 2 feet and my
bi-cycle but thank you for the kind offer,

Its a weird experiance for me, usually I buy Cooked Chickens for 6 Euros for my cats. And here I am trying to protect some stray hen/chicken from the very things that eat his kind when I decide to treat them! shocking!

Will see what happens in the morning time, will hopefully
be heading down to the Local vets with the poor bird and
will see what the story is.

Weirdist of all the poor thick ejjit of a bird did not seem too
stressed when I picked it up, it actually closed its eyes
as if it was going asleep in my arms, and it did not seem
to be too afraid of the cats.

The Limerick Animal welfare group have a santuary out the
country side for quite a few different animals so were hopeing to make contact with them in the morning to
see if they will be able to take the poor crater.
I know they have dogs, cats, donkeys and pot belly pigs
so a Hen is probably not unusual.

hen poo does not smell nice, was surprised at
the amount of it this morning, trasferred it to a different
cage and it soiled that one about 2 mins later.

Good news is Hen is now safe at the Vets.
The Limerick animal welfare have been in contact with
the vet so hopefully there will be a place for it at the sanctuary.

THats brilliant news, well done for saving this girl. I think you could use the pellets as manure?

The big question though, did she lay an egg for you?

Did not Lay a golden egg or even a normal one.
    That would have been interesting.
